TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State swept the season series from the visiting San Francisco State Gators this afternoon after a 61-57 victory over the Gators at The Fitz.
Jeremiah Jones finished with a game high 19 points for his 19
th straight game scoring in double digits for the hosts.
Daniel Ameyaw chipped in 12 points while
Jason Cibull added 11 points including a key trey late in the game for the victors.
FIRST HALF: The first nine minutes of the game was even until San Francisco State took a 15-12 lead on a Caleb Oden lay-up. The Gators increased their lead to 22-14 in the next minute capped by a Tyjean Burrell lay-up.
Daniel Ameyaw's free throw cut the Gator lead to 26-21 for Stan State with just 3:23 left in the half. Caden Flowers gave SF State a seven-point lead (28-21), but the Warriors scored the half's final three points capped by a
William Chavarin lay-up off a
Jason Cibull assist to cut their deficit to 28-24 heading into the locker room.
SECOND HALF: Jeremiah Jones scored the second half's first four points to tie the game at 28-28 with just three minutes into the new half. Jones hit a trey at the 12:09 mark to give Stan State (9-11, 6-8 CCAA) a 40-39 lead. SF State scored the next four points to retake the lead, 43-40. The game went back and forth for the next six points until
Jason Cibull hit a trey off a
Daniel Ameyaw assist with 3:53 on the clock to give the hosts a 54-51 lead. SF State (8-12, 6-8 CCAA) scored the next four points capped by a Pearse Uniacke lay-up to take a 55-54 lead with a little under two minutes to go in the game. The Warriors didn't let SF State to score a final basket in the final two minutes, and the Warriors went six-for-six from the charity stripe (Jones 4-for-4 and Cibull two-for-two) as the hosts took the 61-55 victory.
SERIES SWEEP: Stan State swept the season series from the Gators this season. Earlier in January in San Francisco, the Warriors defeated SF State 67-55. This afternoon, they took the season series with their 61-57 victory.
18-FOR-21: The Warriors went 18-for-21 from the charity stripe this afternoon.

Jason Cibull was two-for-two.

BENCH: The hosts' bench outscored their visitors' 18-6 lead by
Jason Cibull's 11 points.

DEFENSE: Stan State held SF State to just 39.7% shooting from the field including just 9.5% from three-point land. The Gators shot just 39% in the second half from the field and were one-for-seven from beyond the arc. They forced 11 turnovers by the Gators including six by steals (two by
Jeremiah Jones, one by
Jonathan Tchengang, and one by
Mahda Fallay).
19 STRAIGHT: With his 19 points,
Jeremiah Jones has scored in double digits in 19 straight games. He went five-for-11 from the field and connected on one of his three attempts from beyond the arc. Jones was a perfect eight-for-eight from the charity stripe. The senior guard added four rebounds, three assists, and two steals in 34 minutes.
FOUR-WAY TIE FOR SIXTH: By going 1-1 this weekend, Stan State is now 6-8 in the CCAA. This places them in a four-way tie for sixth place with Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Los Angeles with eight games left in the regular season.
UP NEXT: Stan State will go on a two-game road trip to Northern California for its next two CCAA games. The Warriors will be in Chico, Calif., this Thursday, February 6 for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off with No. 24 Chico State. They will finish the weekend in Arcata, Calif., for a 5:00 p.m. game with Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday, February 8. Stan State will return home on February 13 at 7:30 p.m., when it hosts Cal State Dominguez Hills in Homecoming 2025.
