Premo’s Game-Winning Lay-Up Caps Fourth Quarter Rally For Warriors

TURLOCK, Calif.---  Stan State used a 25-4 run to end the game which was capped by an Alyssa Premo game-winning lay-up in the final seconds to defeat the Cal State East Bay Pioneers 58-57 this evening at Stan State's Fitzpatrick Arena.  Alyssa Premo finished with 14 points to lead the Warriors while Amya Vangkham-Griffin added 21 points off the bench.

FIRST QUARTER:  The first quarter was even until Cal State East Bay (7-12, 5-8 CCAA) took a 17-8 lead on a Brooke Donnelly three with 2:40 left in the quarter.  The Pioneers increased their lead to 19-8 on two Joia Armstrong free throws.  Stan State cut the deficit to 19-11 on a Jadyn Patterson trey off a Quinn Garrett pass. On the guests' next possession, they took a 21-11 lead on a lay-up by Armstrong heading into the second quarter.

SECOND QUARTER:  The Pioneers increased their lead to 27-14 four minutes into the new quarter.  In the next three minutes, Stan State outscored the Pioneers 8-2 to cut the deficit to 29-22 on a Amy Vangkham-Griffin lay-up.  The Pioneers and increased their lead to 34-22 with just 84 seconds left in the half.  A jumper by Krista Andersen off a Da'Myiah Lewis made the score 34-24 East Bay heading into the locker room.

THIRD QUARTER:  Stan State (5-14, 4-9 CCAA) cut the Pioneer lead to 34-26 on a Quinn Garrett jump off a pass from Krista Anderson in the first minute of the third quarter.  The guests outscored their hosts 9-3 in the next six minutes to take a 43-29 lead.  A jumper by Jadyn Patterson cut the Warrior deficit to 45-33, but a jumper by Lailah Carey gave East Bay a 47-33 lead heading into the final quarter. 

FOURTH QUARTER:  The Pioneers scored the first six minutes of the final quarter to take a 53-33 lead.  Stan State didn't go away as the Warriors went on a 21-2 run capped by a Krista Anderson jumper to cut the deficit to 55-54 with just thirty-three seconds left in regulation.  Paige Donnelly's two free throws gave the Pioneers a 57-54 lead.  On the Warriors' next possession, they were fouled and Jaydn Patterson made both free throws to cut the Pioneer lead to 57-56.  The Pioneers were fouled by Stan State and missed both free throws.  Da'Myiah Lewis got the rebounds and Alyssa Premo scored the game-winning lay-up with less than four seconds left in the game, 58-57.  East Bay had a chance but Premo got the steal and Stan State held on for come-from-behind victory.

25-10:  Stan State outscored the Pioneers 25-10 in the final quarter. The Warriors shot 50% from the field including going three-for-six from beyond the arc.  They held East Bay to just 23% shooting in the final quarter.

24 TURNOVERS:  The Warriors forced 24 turnovers by Cal State East Bay and turned them into 19 points.  Thirteen of those were on steals including three by Daja Scott-Mitchell.  Four Warriors had two steals each in Quinn Garrett, Alyssa Premo, Da'Myiah Lewis, and Kristen Andersen.

BENCH: Stan State's bench outscored the Pioneers' bench 22-17.  Eleven of those 22 points came from Amy Vangkham-Griffin season high 11 points.  She went four-of-six from the field including two-of-four from three-point land.  Jadyn Patterson chipped in seven points and Krista Andersen added four points.

15:  Da'Myiah Lewis had a career high 15 rebounds including ten defensive rebounds.  She added three assists to go with her two steals and eight points.

UP NEXT:  Stan State ends its four-game home stand this Saturday, February 1 with a 1:00 p.m. scheduled tip-off with San Francisco State on Golden Valley Health Center Day at The Fitz.  The Gators defeated Cal State Monterey Bay 64-63 in double overtime this evening in Seaside.  Three weeks ago, Stan State lost to SF State 64-56 in San Francisco.
