TURLOCK, Calif.-- Stan State's
Victoria Alarcon threw a five-hit complete game shutout in game one of today's non-conference doubleheader with Jessup to begin the 2025 season. Alarcon struck out seven in her season opening win.
Katie Thornsberry had the game-winning hit to bring in
Malia Babasa with the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth. Jessup took the night cap 9-3.
GAME ONE: Victoria Alarcon started the game retiring the Jessup Warriors in order. With two outs in the Stan State half of the first,
McKenna Beach had double but was stranded at second. Stan State (1-1) had another chance to get on the board in its half of the second.
Karli DalBianco and
Allejandra Perea had back-to-back lead-off singles to begin the inning. They advanced to second and third when
Marissa Cerda sacrificed them over with one out.
Jessup's pitcher struck out the next Warrior to end the Stan State scoring threat.
The game remained scoreless until the Stan State sixth inning.
Malia Babasa had a lead-off single and stole second with one out. Babasa scored what proved to be the game-winning on a pinch-hit run scoring single by
Katie Thornsberry.
With two outs in the Jessup seventh, Aaliyah Pineda doubled to right center, but Alarcon induced the next Jessup batter to pop out to
Karli DalBianco at third base as Stan State took the opener 1-0.

SIX DIFFERENT WARRIOR BATTERS: Stan State had six batters each with a hit in
Malia Babasa,
McKenna Beach,
Katie Thornsberry,
Karli DalBianco,
Allejandra Perea, and
Sarah Warden. Beach had her first double and Babasa stole her first base of the season. Thornsberry drove in the game-winning run with a single with Babasa scoring the game-winning run.
GAME TWO: Game two was scoreless until the Jessup half of the second when the Jessup Warriors scored an unearned run. Stan State came right back and tied the game in the bottom of the second.
Karli DalBianco had a lead-off single and scored on a two-out double by
Sarah Warden.
Jessup (1-1) scored two runs in the top of the third capped by a Sarah Giles' double. The Jessup Warriors added another run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Olivia Domiknguez in the fourth to take a 4-1 lead.
Stan State cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fourth inning. DalBianco reached on a throwing error and advanced to second. She advanced to third on a ground out by
Allejandra Perea.
Shelby Frutoz drove in the Warriors' second run of the game on a ground out to first. Stan State Warriors added another run in the bottom of the fifth.
Moxie Barton had a lead-off single and scored on a two-base throwing error by Jessup when
Katie Thornsberry had a sacrifice bunt.
Jessup added five more runs in the top of the seventh to take a 9-3 lead. The key Jessup Warrior hits were a solo home run by Kylie Nunes and a two-out two-run home run by Liliana DeAnda.
Stan State had a chance to cut the Jessup lead in its half of the seventh.
Malia Babasa had a lead-off single and went to second when
McKenna Beach walked. Both Warrior runners were stranded on base as Jessup took the 9-3 night cap.
EIGHT: Stan State had eight different batters have one hit a piece in
Sydney Davis,
Karli DalBianco,
Allejandra Perea,
Bree Barner,
Sarah Warden, and
Moxie Barton. DalBianco scored two of Stan State's three runs.
UP NEXT: The Stan State Warriors continue their six-game home stand when they host Academy of Art this Monday, February 3 at 2:00 p.m. in a doubleheader. They will end their home stand on Faculty Staff Day/National Women and Girl in Sports Day on Friday, February 7 for a 1:00 p.m. starting doubleheader with Dominican University.
