INDIANAPOLIS — The Stanislaus State women's soccer team is ranked No. 9 in the latest NCAA Division II West Region rankings, released Wednesday by the NCAA. The Warriors (9-4-4 overall, 5-3-2 CCAA) close the regular season Thursday afternoon at UC Merced, looking to clinch their sixth consecutive berth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Tournament.
Stanislaus State enters the finale on a three-match winning streak and sits fourth in the CCAA standings with 17 points. With a win or tie Thursday, the Warriors would officially secure a postseason spot and could potentially host a first-round match in Sunday's tournament opener. If Stanislaus State earns the right to host, the match would be played at noon Sunday at Warrior Stadium.
The Warriors are riding a strong defensive stretch, posting three straight shutouts and holding opponents scoreless for the past 270 minutes while outscoring them 9-0. Last weekend, Stan State rolled past Cal State Dominguez Hills 5-0 before blanking San Francisco State 2-0 on Senior Day.
Olivia Maragos scored three goals across the two matches, while
Aliah Avila added two goals and three assists. Goalkeeper
Zara Mujica collected her sixth shutout of the season, leading a veteran defense that has allowed just 14 goals in 17 matches.
Maragos leads the team with six goals, while Avila has four goals, five assists, and four game-winning goals—tying her for third all-time in program history with 11 career game-winners. The Warriors' balanced attack also features key contributions from
Jocelin Roa,
Kellyann Rodriguez, and
Haylee Sousa.
When the teams met earlier this season, Stan State earned a 1-0 Cowbell Cup victory over UC Merced in Turlock, decided in the final minute of regulation. UC Merced (6-7-4, 3-6-1 CCAA) has proven defensively tough in its first CCAA season, conceding only 12 goals in 17 matches.
The 2025 CCAA Women's Soccer Tournament, presented by FloCollege, begins Sunday, November 9, with first-round matches at campus sites. The semifinals and championship will be hosted November 14–16 at Cardinale Stadium, Cal State Monterey Bay.
