TURLOCK, Calif.-- Stan State Warriors won the battle of the boards, 31-19, with the visiting Cal State Los Angeles Golden Eagles, but fell 83-79 in a CCAA match-up on Alumni Day at The Fitz.
Jeremiah Jones had a game high 24 points to lead the hosts.
Daniel Ameyaw chipped in 16 points while
Cameron Walker added 14 points.
FIRST HALF: Stan State scored the first seven points of the game on a trey by
Jason Zimmer surrounded by two jumpers by
Daniel Ameyaw and
Jeremiah Jones. Twice the Warriors increased their lead to 13 including on a trey by Jones off a pass from
Jonathan Tchengang to give the hosts a 23-10 lead with 13:29 left in the half. Corey Cofield's II jumper capped a 16-4 run by the Golden Eagles as they cut the hosts' lead to 27-26 at the 5:21 mark of the first half.
Mahda Fallay's lay-up off a
Cameron Walker pass gave Stan State a 37-30 lead. Cal State Los Angeles (11-13, 9-9 CCAA) cut the Warrior lead to 37-32. A Walker lay-up increased Stan State's lead back to seven, 39-32, heading into the locker room.
SECOND HALF: The Warriors (10-14, 7-11 CCAA) outscored their guests 9-5 in the first four minutes of the half to increase their lead to 50-41. A
Jeremiah Jones trey off a
Cameron Walker pass gave Stan State a 53-43 lead. Shane Bell's lay-up capped a 13-3 run by the Golden Eagles as they tied the game at 56-56 with nine minutes left in the game. Cal State Los Angeles took a 63-60 lead on two free throws by Connor Scales. Walker's trey pass off a
Daniel Ameyaw pass capped a mini 8-2 run by the hosts as they took a 68-65 lead with less than four minutes left in regulation. Cal State Los Angeles outscored Stan State 5-2 to take a 75-70 lead on a Corey Cofield II jumper. With 35 seconds left in the game,
Jason Zimmer connected on three free throws to cut the deficit to 79-77. Dominic Escobar went four-for-four from the line in the final seconds to seal the 83-79 victory.
23 STRAIGHT: Jeremiah Jones recorded his 23
rd straight game of scoring in double digits this afternoon. He finished with a game high 24 points which was his seventh game of scoring 20 points or more. He is averaging 18.8 points per game while shooting 46% from the field and 89.3% from the line.
JUST TWO: The Warriors went 18-for-20 from the line today with four Warriors not missing an attempt led by
Jeremiah Jones going six-for-six.
Cameron Walker was four-for-four while
Jason Zimmer was three-for-three.
Daniel Ameyaw went two-for-two.
Mahda Fallay and
Lloyd French went a combined three-for-five.
