Warriors Drop Two in Tournament of Champions

TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State played two games in the Tournament of Champions today. The Warriors' first game was a loss to Central Washington University 7-6. The second game was also a loss 6-1 to Simon Fraser. The games were marred by three errors in each by the Warriors, though both opponents also made errors of their own. Stan State had 14 hits over the two games.

VERSUS THE WILDCATS: The Warriors (3-5) got off to an early 4-0 lead after three innings. In the first inning, with the bases loaded, Sarah Warden hit a sacrifice fly to score Katie Thornsberry. In the third inning, the bases were loaded once again, this time with two outs after a sacrifice bunt and a strikeout. Allejandra Perea singled to score all three and moved to second on the throw home.

Central Washington (2-8) scored four in the top of the fourth after stringing hits together.

Stan State took the lead in the bottom of the fourth. After moving the runner from first over to second with a sacrifice bunt, Malia Babasa singled to move Marissa Cerda, who was pinch running for Bree Barner, over to third. Katie Thornsberry reached on a fielder's choice with Cerda out at home. Karli DalBianco singled to drive Babasa and Thornsberry home.

Two errors proved costly in the top of the sixth inning as Central Washington took the lead 7-6. The Warriors were unable to make a comeback in the final six outs of the game.

VERSUS THE RED LEAFS: Simon Fraser (5-6) earned three in the bottom of the second to take the lead with a series of singles and an error by Stan State. Another run was scored in the fourth off of a sacrifice fly, though the Warriors did get a force out at home to keep them to one run. The Red Leafs earned two more in the bottom of the fifth with a single and a pair of doubles.

The Warriors started a rally in the top of the sixth with some help from an error by Simon Fraser. After a single by Allejandra Perea and a walk by Sydney Davis, the bases were loaded due to an error. Lauryn Serda grounded out, but Perea was able to score. Stan State left two stranded and Simon Fraser was able to claim the win.

PEREA: Allejandra Perea went four-for-seven in today's games, scoring a run and driving in four. Perea now has three two-hit games in a row.

THORNSBERRY: Katie Thornsberry was two-for-four versus Central Washington today, accounting for three of the Warriors' six runs. Thornsberry also got a hit versus Simon Fraser, extending her on base streak. She has reached base in all of the Warriors' games this season.
