Danny Murphy with the game-winning run in Stan State's come-from-behind 5-4 night cap victory.
Noah Chelberg (1-1) picked up the win in relief for the Warriors. Stan State lost game one earlier this afternoon 7-2 to No. 20 Cal State San Bernardino. With the win, the Warriors clinch at a split of this weekend's four-game CCAA series opener.
GAME ONE: Today's opener was scoreless until the top of the third inning. Cal State San Bernardino (9-4, 1-2 CCAA) took the early 1-9 lead. Benji Solano had a lead-off single and later scored on a one-out double by Tyler Vanneste. Stan State tied the game at 1-1 with a run of its own in the bottom of the first.
Robert Valdivia had a lead-off triple and scored when
Flavio Perez grounded into a double play.
The Yotes took a 3-1 lead on a two-run two-out home run over the right field fence by Darryl Ruiz in the top of the fifth inning.
Stan State cut the deficit in half with a run in the sixth inning. Perez and
Alex Solis had back-to-back lead-off singles to begin the Warrior sixth. They each advanced a base on a single by Arthur Navarette, Jr. With one out,
Danny Murphy drove in Perez with a single to center field to cut the Warrior deficit to 3-2.
The game remained 3-2 guests until the Coyote half of the ninth. They scored four runs in that inning keyed by a three-run home run by Ruiz to take a 7-2 lead.
The Warriors had a chance to cut into the Coyote lead in their half of the ninth. With two outs,
Ryan Leonesio singled but was stranded there as Connor Beltzer induced the next batter to ground out to preserve the 7-2 CSUSB victory and recorded his first save.
WARRIOR PITCHER: Rocco Gurrola (1-1) suffered his first loss of the season and walked his batters of the season. He pitched five innings, giving up four hits and three runs while walking four and striking out three.
Zach Geiss pitched four innings of relief, giving up six hits and four unearned runs while striking out three.
NINE HITS: Stan State had nine hits in the opener with the duo of
Robert Valdivia and
Alex Solis each with two.
Danny Murphy had a run batted in and Valdivia and
Flavio Perez scored the Warriors' runs.
GAME TWO: CSUSB took the 1-0 lead in the night cap with an unearned run in the top of the first inning of the seven-inning game. Stan State took a 2-1 lead with a two-run third inning. With one out,
Robert Valdivia had a single and advanced to third on a
Jacob Baker double. They each scored on a
Arthur Navarette Jr. double to right center to give Stna State a 2-1 lead.
Stan State (7-6, 2-1 CCAA) increased its lead to 3-1 on a solo lead-off home run by
Luke Davies his third of the young season.
CSUSB scored a run in the top of the fifth inning, another unearned run, to cut the hosts' lead to 3-2. The guests took a 4-3 lead on a two-out two-run home run by Jeremy Giesegh in the top of the sixth inning.
Stan State tied the game at 4-4 with a run in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs,
Ryan Leonesio drew a walk and advanced to third on back-to-back wild pitches. He scored on an infield single by Valdivia to tie the game at 4-4.
The Coyotes had a chance to retake the lead in their half of the seventh. With one out, Matt Gonzales singled and went to third on a double by Jason Sheddock. Vanneste drew a one-out walk to load the bases. Nosh Chelberg (1-1) induced an inning ending 1-4-3 double play to preserve the 4-4 tie.
In the Warrior half of the seventh,
Flavio Perez and
Luke Davies had back-to-back two-out singles.

Jonluke Goldman hit a single up the middle to bring in Murphy with the game-winning run as Stan State took the night cap 5-4.

Patrick Sweeney had the no-decision in the start. He pitched four innings, giving up three hits and two unearned runs while walking one.
TEN HITS: Stan State had ten hits in the night cap as
Robert Valdivia,
Arthur Navarette Jr., and
Luke Davies each had two hits. Navarette had two runs batted in with Davies, Valdivia and Jonluke Goldmen each with one RBI.
LOOKING FOR THE SERIES WIN: Stan State will look for its third straight series win tomorrow when the Warriors wrap-up the four game series with the Coyotes at noon. The Warriors lead the four-game series with CSUSB 2-1 heading into tomorrow's series finale.
