ARCATA, Calif.--- Stan State split its season series with Cal Poly Humboldt this afternoon by losing to the Lumberjacks 68-51 in Arcata, Calif. Earlier this season, the Warriors defeated Humboldt 62-56 in Turlock, Calif. This evening, the Warriors lost despite three players scoring in double digits in
Amya Vangkham-Griffin (15 points) and Jayden Patterson and
Da'Myiah Lewis each with 11 points.
FIRST QUARTER: Cal Poly Humboldt (5-17, 4-12 CCAA) jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the first two minutes of the game. A
Quinn Garrett lay-up capped a mini 5-0 run by Stan State to cut its lead to 8-6. Kaija Lesane's three-point play increased Humboldt's lead to 13-5 mid-way through the quarter.
Amya Vangkham-Griffin's three off a
Jadyn Patterson assist capped a 9-1 run by the guests to tie the game at 14-14. Humboldt finished the quarter outscoring Stan State 8-2 to take a 22-16 lead.
SECOND QUARTER: The Lumberjacks kept their run going in the second half taking a 32-16 lead with two minutes left in the half.
Da'Myiah Lewis' old-fashioned three-point play capped a 7-0 run by the Warriors to end the quarter and cut the deficit o 32-23 heading into the second half.
THIRD QUARTER: Krista Andersen's jumper off an
Alyssa Premo assist cut the Lumberjack lead to 34-27 two minutes into the second quarter. Cal Poly Humboldt went on a 12-3 run in the next seven minutes to take a 46-30 lead. Stan State cut the deficit to 46-36 on a
Amya Vangkham-Griffin jumper, but Andejela Pavicevic scored the final two points of the quarter to take a 48-36 lead
FOURTH QUARTER: The hosts took a 62-45 mid-way through the final quarter on a Kyori Lloyd lay-up. They increased their lead to 68-49 late in the game on two free throws by Kaija Lesane free throws. An
Amya Vangkham-Griffin lay-up made the final 68-51 Humboldt.
TRIO IN DOUBLE DIGITS: Stan State had three players score in double digits led by Amy Vangkham-Griffin's 15 points off the bench. The duo of Jaydn Patterson and
Da'Myiah Lewis each scored 11 points.
SEASON HIGH: Amya Vangkham-Griffin scored a season high 15 points this evening in 22 minutes off the bench. She went four-for-seven from the field including going two-for-three from three-point land and a perfect six-for-six from the line.
ONE OFF: Da'Myiah Lewis was one rebound away from her eighth double-double of the season and fifth in a row. She scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds in 33 minutes. Lewis added two assists, one blocked shot, and one steal.
UP NEXT: Stan State will return home for a pair of CCAA games, February 13 and 15. The Warriors will host CCAA leader and No. 3 Cal State Dominguez Hills this Thursday, February 13 at 5:30 p.m. in their Annual Homecoming Game. Two days later, Stan State will host Cal State Los Angeles on Alumni Day at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 15.
