Toros Take Two From Warriors

TURLOCK, Calif.--- Stan State hosted Cal State Dominguez Hills in the first doubleheader of the four-game series today. The Toros shutout the Warriors in both games, taking the first 4-0 and the second 3-0.

GAME 1: The game started with three shutout innings on either side until Cal State Dominguez Hills (17-14, 5-9 CCAA) scored in the fourth off a double and a single. The Toros added three more in the fifth with three singles, a sac bunt, then another single.

The Warriors' (9-15, 6-8 CCAA) lone hit came in the bottom of the fifth when McKenna Beach hit a lead-off double. Two Stan State players reached on errors in Moxie Barton and Malia Babasa.

PEREA: Allejandra Perea made an impressive play at shortstop to turn the Warriors' double play. Perea played the ball of a deflection by Sasha Martello to get the lead runner at second and throw the batter out at first.

GAME 2: The first five innings of the contest were silent, though the Toros found an opening in the top of the sixth. They scored three runs with a walk, a pair of doubles, a single, and a stolen base.

Stan State earned seven hits, though they sturggled to string them together. Five Warriors earned those seven hits in Katie Thornsberry, Karli DalBianco (two), Allejandra Perea, Shelby Frutoz, and Madison Rosebrough (two).

FRUTOZ: Shelby Frutoz went one-for-three as a batter with a double. Frutoz pitched to just three batters in three innings, inducing six ground outs, 10 flyouts, and three strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

ROSEBROUGH: Madison Rosebrough went two-for-three with a pair of singles, allowing the freshman to record one of her best outings this season.

DALBIANCO: Karli DalBianco went two-for-three with two singles. DalBianco also played strong defense by catching a foul out in a tough spot near the dugout and assisting in a run down to keep a runner from scoring.

UP NEXT: The Warriors take on Cal State Dominguez Hills tomorrow, Saturday, March 22nd for the second doubleheader, with the first game scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Stan State travels to No. 14 Cal State East Bay for their next series on Friday, March 28th with a second doubleheader on Saturday, March 29th.
