Broncos Take Series Finale from Warriors

POMONA, Calif.---  Cal Poly Pomona defeated the visiting Stan State Warriors 13-2 in today's series finale of this weekend's four-game CCAA series at CPP's Scolinos Field in Pomona, Calif.  Arthur Navarette Jr. had two hits for the Warriors.  LaKeal Morris pitched 2.1 scoreless innings of relief while striking out two. 

Cal Poly Pomona (13-24, 10-18 CCAA) took a 2-0 lead on Robbie Treto's two-out two-run double in the bottom of the first inning.  Stan State cut the deficit in half with a run in the top of the second inning. Flavio Perez had a lead-off single and later scored on a ground out by Danny Murphy to cut the Bronco lead to 2-1.

The Broncos had a three-run second inning capped by a one-out two-run single by Julian Angullo to take a 5-1 lead.  They took an 11-1 lead after a six-run fourth inning. 

Stan State (12-20, 7-15 CCAA) scored its second run in the top of the seventh.  Murphy was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.  He went to second when Jacob Baker drew a walk.  The senior catcher scored on a sacrifice fly by Flavio Perez.  CPP added another run in the eighth to make the final 13-2 Broncos.

MORRIS:  LaKeal Morris pitched 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.  He gave up just one hit while struck out two and walked three. 

TWELFTH:  With his two hit-day, Arthur Navarette Jr. had his 12th multiple-hit game this afternoon.  For the season, Navarette has 11 two-hit games and one five-hit game.  He is hitting .298 with 36 hits of which four are doubles, three home runs, and one a triple.

UP NEXT: The Warriors return home on Friday, April 11 when the Warriors host Sonoma State at 6:00 p.m. to begin a four-game series at Warrior Field.  Prior to the game, Stan State's Annie Wild will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.  Wild became the Warriors' first ever National Champion in the mile at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships last month.  The series will continue this Saturday, April 12 at 1:00 p.m.  Stan State two-time All-CCAA honoree Andrew Stueve'12 will throw out the first pitch prior to game one of the doubleheader.  The two teams will finish the series with a noon starting game on Sunday, April 13. This will be Turlock Latin Chamber of Commerce Day at Warrior Stadium.
