MERCED, Calif. — Stan State put together a resilient effort on the road Thursday evening, working to erase a double-digit deficit in the second half before falling 70-52 to UC Merced at Greg and Cathie Hostetler Court. The Warriors continued to compete inside and on the glass throughout the night, led by a strong all-around performance from MilaSarai Tau, who recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
First Quarter
Stan State opened the game with energy on the defensive end as UC Merced built an early advantage behind balanced scoring. The Warriors stayed engaged on the boards and worked to establish an offensive rhythm as the Bobcats held an 18-10 lead after one.
Second Quarter
The Warriors continued to battle in the second quarter, creating opportunities inside and on the offensive glass. UC Merced extended its lead heading into halftime, but Stan State's effort and ball movement kept the game within reach.
Third Quarter
Stan State responded coming out of the break with renewed energy on both ends of the floor. Tau asserted herself in the paint, and the Warriors chipped away by attacking the glass and pushing the pace during the period. Improved defensive pressure led to additional possessions and momentum swings.
Fourth Quarter
The Warriors carried that momentum into the final quarter, continuing to compete and look for scoring chances inside. UC Merced maintained its lead down the stretch, but Stan State fought through the final horn with consistent effort.
