SAN MARCOS, Calif. — A balanced scoring effort carried Stan State men's basketball to an 83–80 overtime victory at Cal State San Marcos on Thursday night at The Sports Center, completing a season sweep of the Cougars. Five Warriors scored in double figures, led by Donjae Lindsey with 18 points, while Tahjae Ordonio added 15 and Antony Newman-Gomez posted a season-high 12 points. Malik Johnson also recorded a season-high 11 points, and Lloyd French chipped in 13 as Stan State went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line in overtime to secure the road win.
First Half
The opening 20 minutes featured a tightly contested battle with multiple ties and lead changes as both teams traded baskets early. Stan State shot efficiently in the first half, connecting on 53.6 percent from the field, while Cal State San Marcos relied on free throws to build a narrow 36–35 halftime lead. Donjae Lindsey set the tone offensively with strong finishes in the paint, while Anthony Newman-Gomez and Tahjae Ordonio provided timely scoring to keep the Warriors within one heading into the break.
Second Half
Stan State continued to apply pressure after halftime, matching Cal State San Marcos basket for basket as the lead changed hands throughout the period. The Warriors attacked the rim and earned trips to the free-throw line, going 7-for-10 at the stripe in the second half to counter the Cougars' interior play. Donjae Lindsey gave Stan State a 71–67 advantage with a strong layup in the paint with 2:59 remaining, and the Warriors generated defensive stops and rebounding opportunities to try to close the game in regulation. Cal State San Marcos stayed within reach with second-chance chances and cut the margin to two at the two-minute mark before tying the game at 71–71 on a fast-break layup with 33 seconds left. Stan State had a final look to win it at the buzzer, but the attempt was blocked, sending the game to overtime tied.
Overtime
Stan State(9-10, 5-8 CCAA) took control in the final minute of overtime with composure on both ends of the floor. Lindsey put the Warriors in front for good with a strong layup in the paint at the 59-second mark. After a defensive stop and rebound by redshirt sophomore Lloyd French, he calmly knocked down two free throws at the 28-second mark to extend the lead to three. Cal State San Marcos (10-8, 7-6 CCAA) responded with a pair of free throws to cut the margin to one, but Ordonio sealed the victory by converting two clutch free throws with nine seconds remaining. Anthony Newman-Gomez capped the defensive stand by recording a steal on the Cougars' final possession as Stan State closed overtime a perfect 6-for-6 at the free-throw line.
Warrior Notables
Donjae Lindsey led all scorers with 18 points and added five rebounds.
Tahjae Ordonio finished with 15 points and went 6-for-8 at the free-throw line.
Antony Newman-Gomez scored a season-high 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting.
Malik Johnson recorded a season-high 11 points to go with six rebounds and two blocked shots.
Lloyd French added 13 points, seven rebounds, three steals, and helped seal the win at the free-throw line in overtime.
CCAA Standings Update
With the win, Stan State improved to 5-8 in CCAA play, sitting two games out of fourth place, currently held by Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Marcos, and Cal State San Bernardino at 7–6. The Warriors are tied for seventh alongside Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State LA as the second half of the conference season continues. At the conclusion of the regular season, the top six teams in the CCAA standings will qualify for the 2025–26 CCAA Men's Basketball Championship Tournament.

Stan State will continue its road trip along the coast on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m., facing Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside, Calif. The Otters defeated UC Merced 89–83 in overtime earlier Thursday night. The Warriors will then return home next week to host Chico State on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. on Stan State Night, followed by a matchup with Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 3 p.m. on City of Turlock Day.
