SEASIDE, Calif. — Malachi Johnson scored a game-high 27 points to lead Stan State to an 86–81 road victory over Cal State Monterey Bay on Saturday afternoon at The Kelp Bed, giving head coach Paul Trevor his 200th career win on the sidelines. The Warriors finished the weekend 2–0 after traveling more than 1,000 miles, improving to 10–10 overall and 6–8 in CCAA play as they remain firmly in the conference race with eight games remaining in the regular season.
First Half
Stan State weathered an early three-point surge from Cal State Monterey Bay and responded with efficient offense and strong interior play to take a 45–41 lead into halftime. The Warriors shot 50 percent from the field in the opening 20 minutes and knocked down four three-pointers while consistently attacking the paint. Malachi Johnson set the tone early with strong finishes around the rim, and Tahjae Ordonio provided a spark offensively as Stan State overcame multiple early deficits to build momentum late in the half.
Second Half
The Warriors maintained control after the break, continuing to attack the basket and stretch the floor when needed. Stan State shot 53.1 percent in the second half and used balanced scoring to keep Cal State Monterey Bay at bay despite several runs by the Otters. Johnson remained aggressive offensively, while Daniel Ameyaw and Lloyd French delivered key baskets during critical stretches. Down the stretch, Stan State executed at the free-throw line and converted defensive stops into points to hold off Monterey Bay's final push and close out the five-point win.

Stan State sits at 6–8 in CCAA play and 10–10 overall, tied for seventh place with Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State LA as the conference race tightens entering the final stretch of the regular season. Cal State East Bay leads the standings at 14–0 in conference play and 20–0 overall and is ranked No. 3 nationally, followed by Cal State Dominguez Hills (11–3) and Cal Poly Humboldt (10–4). Cal State Monterey Bay, Cal State San Marcos, and Cal State San Bernardino are all tied at 7–7 in conference action, placing Stan State just one game out of the top six with eight games remaining. The top six teams at the end of the regular season will qualify for the 2025–26 CCAA Men's Basketball Championship Tournament in Pomona, Calif.
