TURLOCK, Calif. — Chico State held its nerve at the free-throw line in the closing seconds Wednesday night, edging Stan State 73–69 in a tightly contested CCAA match-up at Fitzpatrick Arena.
Daniel Ameyaw paced the Warriors with 16 points, tying his season high, while
Donjae Lindsey led all scorers with 18 as Stan State fought through eight ties and six lead changes before the Wildcats closed it out at the line.
First Half
Stan State and Chico State traded momentum throughout an evenly played first half, with neither team able to create sustained separation. The Warriors found success attacking the paint and crashing the glass, while Chico State countered with efficient perimeter shooting. The Wildcats edged ahead late in the period to take a narrow 38–36 lead into halftime.
Second Half
Stan State came out of the locker room with energy, opening the second half on a strong run to build a 50–42 advantage in the opening five minutes. Lindsey scored nine points early in the period, while
Malachi Johnson and
Antony Newman-Gomez added key baskets inside as the Warriors controlled the tempo.
Chico State responded with a steady push, chipping away at the deficit before regaining the lead midway through the half. The game tightened late, with Stan State tying the score at 64–64 with just over three minutes remaining. After
