Cougars Clip Stan State in San Marcos

SAN MARCOS, Calif. — Cal State San Marcos scored in the final minute and closed at the free-throw line to edge Stan State 56–53 on Thursday night at The Sports Center. The Warriors led 25–24 at halftime in a tightly contested game before the Cougars pulled away late to secure the win.  Kalyn Harris scored a season-high 10 points to lead Stan State, while Alyssa Premo also finished with 10. Eryn Gardner added nine points and nine rebounds, and Quinn Garrett dished out five assists as the Warriors were within one possession until the final seconds.

First Quarter
Stan State and Cal State San Marcos traded baskets early, with neither team able to gain separation. The opening period ended tied at 12–12.

Second Quarter
The Warriors continued to battle in the second quarter, using balanced scoring and defensive stops to stay in front. Stan State edged ahead at halftime, taking a 25–24 lead into the break.

Third Quarter
Both teams struggled to find a consistent rhythm coming out of halftime, with Cal State San Marcos narrowly outscoring Stan State 12–11. The teams entered the fourth quarter tied at 36–36.

Fourth Quarter
The game remained tight throughout the final period, with six ties and multiple lead changes. Cal State San Marcos made key plays in the final minute and converted at the free-throw line to close out the 56–53 decision.

The Warriors will continue their road trip along the coast this Saturday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m., when they face Cal State Monterey Bay in Seaside, Calif. The Otters defeated UC Merced 73–62 earlier tonight in Seaside. Stan State will then return home next week to host Chico State on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 5:30 p.m. on Stan State Night, followed by a matchup with Cal Poly Humboldt on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. on City of Turlock Day.
