10/16/2026 10:24:00 PM

FRESNO, Calif. – Stan State women's tennis opened the ITA West Regional Championships with four singles victories and a doubles win Thursday before continuing competition against several of the tournament's top-seeded players Friday at Fresno Pacific University.

The Warriors began the four-day event with victories from Emi Mikami, Nica Sobrapena, Katrine Damkjær and Abbigail Mulick, advancing four players into the singles round of 32. Mulick and Sobrapena also teamed up for an opening-round doubles victory, while Alessandra Del Pino Carvajal continued into the consolation bracket.

Friday brought challenging matchups against regional competition, including three seeded opponents in the singles main draw. Although Stan State's championship-bracket runs concluded, Del Pino Carvajal advanced in consolation competition as the Warriors continued gaining experience against opponents from across the NCAA Division II West Region.

Day One Singles Recap

Stan State opened Thursday with four victories in the singles round of 64, highlighted by two three-set battles and a pair of straight-set wins.

Mikami continued her strong start to the 2026-27 season, defeating Point Loma's Anna Pallencaoe in a three-set contest. After taking the opening set 6-3, Mikami dropped the second 1-6 before responding with an 11-9 victory in the deciding match tiebreak.

The win extended Mikami's singles winning streak to four matches following her unbeaten 3-0 performance at the Dominican Hidden Duals earlier this month.

Sobrapena earned a straight-set victory over Fresno Pacific's Jessica McLean, winning 7-5, 6-0. After navigating a competitive opening set, the junior transfer took control in the second to secure her place in the next round.

Damkjær also advanced with a convincing straight-set performance, defeating Point Loma's Melissa Zirkle 6-3, 6-3.

Mulick closed the Warriors' opening-day singles action with another three-set victory. Facing Biola's Ayala Stephens, the senior captured the opening set 7-5 before dropping the second 2-6. Mulick responded in the deciding match tiebreak, winning 10-5 to advance.

Two Warriors faced seeded opponents in their opening matches. Del Pino Carvajal fell 6-0, 6-0 to sixth-seeded Emely Valencia of Point Loma, while Lisa Lieberman dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to No. 14 Rosa Viller Moller of Hawai'i Pacific.

Day One Doubles Recap

Stan State began Thursday morning with three doubles teams competing in the round of 32.

Mulick and Sobrapena earned the Warriors' lone doubles victory, defeating Westmont's Eleanor Edwards and Ellie Triplett 8-6. Their run continued into the round of 16, where they faced sixth-seeded Perla Conde Vendrell and Malia Rose Fernandez of Point Loma. The Point Loma pairing ultimately advanced with an 8-3 victory.

Mikami and Del Pino Carvajal fell 8-2 to Colorado Mesa's Ruby Robbins and Taylor Nokes, while Damkjær and Lieberman dropped an 8-4 decision to fifth-seeded Evi Roobol and Kaia Sperry of Hawai'i Pacific.

The opening day provided the Warriors with another opportunity to develop their doubles combinations against a competitive regional field.

Day Two Singles Recap

Stan State returned to the courts Friday with four Warriors competing in the singles round of 32, including three facing seeded opponents.

Mikami entered the day riding a four-match singles winning streak after her unbeaten performance at the Dominican Hidden Duals and Thursday's opening-round victory. Her run ended against Fresno Pacific's Savannah Bijlsma, who advanced with a 6-0, 6-0 decision.

Sobrapena faced No. 15 Sofia Acuña of Dominican after defeating Fresno Pacific's McLean in straight sets Thursday. Acuña earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory, bringing Sobrapena's first ITA Regional main-draw appearance as a Warrior to a close.

Damkjær delivered one of Stan State's most competitive performances Friday against fourth-seeded Zofia Dziewiecka of Menlo.

After dropping the opening set 6-3, Damkjær responded with a commanding 6-0 victory in the second to force a deciding match tiebreak. Dziewiecka ultimately prevailed 10-2, but Damkjær's response highlighted her ability to challenge one of the tournament's highest-seeded competitors.

Mulick faced another difficult assignment against second-seeded Yume Ueoku of Fresno Pacific. The senior fell 6-2, 6-3, concluding her singles championship-bracket run after Thursday's three-set victory over Biola's Stephens.

Despite Friday's results, the Warriors finished the main-draw portion of the tournament with four opening-round singles victories and valuable experience against several of the region's top players.

Consolation Competition

Stan State also continued competition in the consolation singles bracket at Fresno State.

Del Pino Carvajal advanced through the opening consolation round after receiving a bye. She subsequently advanced past Lily Anna Rose Harper of Menlo by walkover, moving into the consolation quarterfinals.

The sophomore remained in the consolation draw heading into Friday evening's competition, with additional matches scheduled as the tournament progressed.

Lieberman was also entered in consolation play following her opening-round loss to No. 14 Viller Moller. Her consolation draw included a matchup against Colorado Mesa's Devyn Rodriguez, although a final result was not available in the provided results.

The consolation bracket offered both Warriors additional opportunities for competition following their opening-round matches against seeded opponents.

Warriors Update

Through two days at the ITA West Regional Championships, Stan State has continued building on its season-opening experience against a competitive regional field.

Mikami entered the tournament following an unbeaten weekend at the Dominican Hidden Duals and extended her singles winning streak to four matches with Thursday's victory. Sobrapena added another win to her first season with Stan State, while Mulick and Damkjær each secured opening-round victories.

The Warriors also gained experience against several of the tournament's top-seeded competitors, including Damkjær's three-set battle against No. 4 Dziewiecka and Mulick's matchup against No. 2 Ueoku.

In doubles, Mulick and Sobrapena earned an opening-round victory before falling to the sixth-seeded Point Loma pairing, continuing to develop their partnership in regional competition.

For a six-player roster featuring four returners and two newcomers, the tournament has provided valuable opportunities to compete against unfamiliar opponents, gain experience in championship formats and continue developing ahead of the spring dual-match season.

Up Next

Stan State will look to continue its remaining consolation opportunities as the ITA West Regional Championships move into Saturday, Oct. 17.

Del Pino Carvajal advanced in the consolation draw Friday, with the remaining results needed to confirm her next matchup. Lieberman's consolation result also remains unconfirmed.

The tournament continues Saturday with the singles quarterfinals and semifinals and the doubles semifinals. The ITA West Regional Championships conclude Sunday, Oct. 18, with the singles and doubles championship matches.
