11/3/2026 12:48:00 PM

TURLOCK, Calif. – Stan State women's tennis returns to competition this weekend, Nov. 6-8, traveling to the Bay Area for the San José State Hidden Duals. The three-day event will feature singles and doubles competition against NCAA Division I opponents San José State, Santa Clara and Nevada as the Warriors conclude the fall portion of their 2026-27 schedule.

Competition begins Friday at the San José State Tennis Center before shifting to the Santa Clara University Tennis Center on Saturday. The event returns to San José State on Sunday for the final day of competition.

Under head coach Verek Visaraga, the Warriors will face three Division I programs representing the Mountain West and West Coast conferences. The weekend provides Stan State with an opportunity to test its developing lineup against a different level of competition before turning its attention to the spring dual-match season.

Recent Competition

Stan State enters the weekend following its appearance at the ITA West Regional Championships in Fresno, where the Warriors collected four opening-round singles victories and a doubles win against regional competition.

Sophomore Emi Mikami continued her strong start to the fall season, earning a three-set victory over Point Loma's Anna Pallencaoe, 6-3, 1-6, 11-9. The victory extended her singles winning streak to four matches following an unbeaten 3-0 performance at the Dominican Hidden Duals earlier in October.

Junior Nica Sobrapena also advanced in the singles main draw, defeating Fresno Pacific's Jessica McLean 7-5, 6-0. The junior transfer has made an early impact since joining Stan State, collecting multiple victories across the Warriors' opening fall competitions.

Katrine Damkjær added a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Point Loma's Melissa Zirkle before pushing fourth-seeded Zofia Dziewiecka of Menlo into a deciding match tiebreak in the round of 32. After dropping the opening set 6-3, Damkjær responded with a 6-0 second-set victory before falling 10-2 in the decider.

Senior Abbigail Mulick also advanced through the opening round, defeating Biola's Ayala Stephens 7-5, 2-6, 10-5 before falling to second-seeded Yume Ueoku of Fresno Pacific.

In doubles competition, Mulick and Sobrapena earned an 8-6 victory over Westmont's Eleanor Edwards and Ellie Triplett before falling to the sixth-seeded pairing from Point Loma in the round of 16.

The regional tournament provided the Warriors with valuable experience against some of the West Region's top competitors as they continued adjusting to their new lineup.

Warriors Update

Stan State's six-player roster features four returning players and two transfers, giving the program a combination of collegiate experience and new additions.

Mulick enters the weekend as the Warriors' lone senior, bringing experience from competing near the top of the lineup during the 2025-26 season. Damkjær, Mikami and Alessandra Del Pino Carvajal return for their sophomore campaigns after contributing to last season's PacWest Championship appearance.

Transfers Sobrapena and Lisa Lieberman have also gained valuable experience during their first fall season with the Warriors.

Sobrapena joined Stan State from American River College, where she helped the Beavers capture the 2025 California Community College Athletic Association state championship. Lieberman arrived after spending the previous season at Hawai'i Pacific.

Mikami has emerged as an early contributor in singles competition, while Mulick, Damkjær and Sobrapena have each collected victories against regional opponents.

With the fall season nearing its conclusion, this weekend presents another opportunity for Visaraga to evaluate the Warriors' singles depth and doubles combinations ahead of the spring dual-match schedule.

Scouting San José State

San José State enters its home Hidden Duals following a competitive showing at the Santa Clara Hidden Duals, Oct. 23-25, where the Spartans faced Santa Clara, Sacramento State and Pacific.

The Spartans collected several notable singles victories throughout the three-day event, highlighted by performances from Nitika Girish, Katarina Brajovic and Cristina Mateos Losada.

Girish earned a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Sacramento State's Dasha Savina on Saturday, while Brajovic closed the weekend with a three-set comeback victory over Pacific's Lily Ung. After dropping the opening set 6-3, Brajovic responded with a 6-3 second set before winning the deciding tiebreak 7-3.

Mateos Losada also contributed in singles, defeating Santa Clara's Juliette Krumholz 6-3, 6-3 on Friday before closing the tournament with a 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 victory over Pacific's Maya Shanok.

In doubles, Brajovic and Girish teamed up for a 7-5 victory over Sacramento State on the final day, while Mateos Losada and Brajovic also earned a 7-5 win against Sacramento State's Reese Walker and Jess Schilz.

The Spartans' recent competition featured several closely contested matches, including multiple three-set singles battles and competitive doubles results. For Stan State, facing the host program will provide another test against Division I competition as the Warriors continue developing their singles lineup and doubles combinations.

Scouting Santa Clara

Santa Clara enters the weekend following a productive showing at its home Hidden Duals, Oct. 23-25, where the Broncos collected victories against San José State, Sacramento State and Pacific.

The Broncos opened the tournament with three singles wins over San José State, highlighted by Ashley Katz, Lara Quaglia and Alexandra O'Brien.

Katz delivered one of the opening day's strongest performances, overcoming a 5-2 first-set deficit against Katarina Brajovic before winning 7-5, 6-1. Quaglia defeated Nitika Girish 6-4, 6-4, while O'Brien earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Camila Celis.

Santa Clara continued its success Saturday, collecting five singles victories and three doubles wins. Katz finished the day unbeaten in three matches, earning a 6-2, 6-3 singles victory over Pacific's Nahreen Cheam while contributing two doubles wins.

Anna Rahman also delivered a comeback victory against Pacific's Indiya McLeod, recovering from a set down to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Madhu Satishbabu added a 6-4, 6-0 singles victory over Sacramento State's Francesca De Matteo.

The Broncos concluded the tournament Sunday with three singles victories, including another comeback performance from freshman Ashley Kurizaki. After dropping the opening set against Sacramento State's Nel Van Hout, Kurizaki recovered from a 5-0 second-set deficit and saved three match points before securing a 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 victory.

Quaglia also rallied from a set down to defeat Sacramento State's Jess Schilz 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, while Satishbabu earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Pacific's Miyu Takiguchi.

Santa Clara's recent performances have been highlighted by its ability to respond in difficult situations, particularly in extended singles matches. The Broncos' success in both singles and doubles provides Stan State with another challenging opponent as the Warriors prepare for their final fall competition.

Scouting Nevada

Nevada rounds out the field at the SJSU Hidden Duals, giving Stan State another opportunity to compete against an NCAA Division I program from the Mountain West Conference.

The Wolf Pack will face the Warriors in Saturday and Sunday competition, providing Stan State with two sessions against an opponent outside its usual PacWest schedule.

While the teams compete at different NCAA divisional levels, the Hidden Duals format allows individual players to gain match experience without the results counting toward traditional team dual-match records.

For Stan State, the matchups against Nevada offer another opportunity to test its singles lineup and doubles combinations against unfamiliar opponents while continuing to build competitive experience.

What This Weekend Means

The SJSU Hidden Duals represent an important final test for Stan State as the Warriors prepare to transition from fall tournament competition into the spring dual-match season.

Throughout the fall, Stan State has faced a variety of opponents, beginning with familiar PacWest programs at the Dominican Hidden Duals before competing against a larger regional field at the ITA West Regional Championships.

This weekend presents a different challenge, with three Division I programs providing opportunities for the Warriors to compete against players outside their regular conference schedule.

For Stan State's returning players, the tournament offers another chance to build on their collegiate experience, while newcomers Sobrapena and Lieberman continue adjusting to their roles within the lineup.

With the Warriors continuing to develop their doubles partnerships and singles depth, the three-day event will provide additional opportunities to evaluate progress ahead of the spring season.

Tournament Format

The Hidden Duals will feature singles and doubles competition throughout the weekend, allowing players to compete in individual matches rather than traditional team duals.

Doubles matches will be contested as six-game pro sets, while singles matches will follow a best-of-three-full-sets format.

The event will provide Stan State with additional opportunities to develop doubles chemistry and gain experience competing in longer singles matches against Division I opponents.

Looking Ahead

The SJSU Hidden Duals will mark the final scheduled fall competition for Stan State before the Warriors turn their attention to the spring portion of the 2026-27 season.

With several players already earning singles victories at the Dominican Hidden Duals and ITA West Regional Championships, the team will look to carry that experience into another challenging tournament field.

Facing San José State, Santa Clara and Nevada over three days will provide another opportunity for the Warriors to measure their development, strengthen their doubles combinations and continue preparing for PacWest competition in the spring.
