SAN FRANCISCO--- Stan State rallied from an early six-point deficit to capture the third set and extend Friday evening's match before falling to San Francisco State in four sets, 25-22, 25-20, 24-26, 25-11, at SFFCU Gymnasium at Don Nasser Family Plaza.
Maggie Olson led the Warriors with 10 kills,
Reagan Wilkerson recorded 27 assists and a season-high four service aces, and
Sydney Hoffman hit .500 with five kills as Stan State opened its Bay Area road weekend.
The loss moved Stan State to 5-8 overall and 1-3 in the CCAA, while San Francisco State improved to 5-8 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
Stan State finished with 46 kills and hit .206 for the match.
Fallon Freeman added eight kills and eight digs,
Emily Meyer had seven kills and
Soraya Forbes finished with six kills while hitting .333. Hoffman provided a spark with five kills on eight attempts for a .500 hitting percentage and added two total blocks.
Rylee Szyszka led the Warriors with 16 digs, while
Leah Mendoza, Wilkerson and Freeman each had eight.
San Francisco State hit .269 with 49 kills and finished with 20 service aces. Alana Larson led the Gators with 16 kills on 27 attempts while hitting .519, while Grace Witcher had 14 kills, five aces and 15 digs.
First Set
San Francisco State jumped out to an 11-5 lead before Stan State began working its way back into the set. Kills by Meyer and Olson helped the Warriors cut the deficit to 22-20. After the Gators moved within a point of taking the set at 24-20, Wilkerson and
Lauren Hamilton recorded consecutive kills to make it 24-22. Witcher answered with a kill to give San Francisco State the 25-22 victory.
Second Set
Stan State scored the first three points of the second set behind a Forbes kill, a Wilkerson service ace and a Meyer kill. San Francisco State answered and eventually built a 15-10 advantage.
The Warriors continued to battle, pulling within three at 18-15 on a Hamilton kill. San Francisco State extended its lead to 22-15 before Stan State made one final push. Szyszka recorded an ace and Wilkerson followed with back-to-back aces to cut the Gators' advantage to 23-20. San Francisco State scored the final two points for the 25-20 victory. Wilkerson had three of Stan State's four service aces in the set.
Third Set
Facing a 2-0 match deficit, Stan State overcame an early 7-1 hole to extend the match. The Warriors gradually chipped away at the Gators' lead, with three consecutive kills by Hoffman pulling Stan State within 16-15. San Francisco State later led 20-17 before Stan State made another push. Kills by Freeman, Forbes and Olson helped the Warriors tie the set at 21. After the teams exchanged points, Olson's kill gave Stan State its first lead at 23-22 and Freeman followed with a service ace to make it 24-22.
The Gators tied the set at 24, but Hoffman answered with her fourth kill of the frame to put the Warriors back in front. Wilkerson and
Victoria Plumb then combined for a block to finish the 26-24 victory. Stan State hit .286 with 15 kills in the set, while Hoffman went four-for-five offensively and Olson added four kills.
Fourth Set
San Francisco State took control early in the fourth, building a 4-0 advantage. Stan State pulled within 4-3 following consecutive kills by Olson and Hoffman, but the Gators responded and later used an extended run to build a 17-5 lead.
The Warriors could not overcome the deficit as San Francisco State hit .478 in the fourth set and closed out the match with a 25-11 victory.
