POMONA, Calif. — Stan State ran into a hot-shooting No. 9 Cal Poly Pomona squad Thursday evening, falling 87-50 in CCAA women's basketball action at Kellogg Arena.
Sara Davis paced the Warriors with a season-high 18 points and eight rebounds.
Stan State moves to 3-17 overall and 2-15 in conference play, while Cal Poly Pomona improves to 21-2 overall and 16-1 in the CCAA.
First Quarter
Stan State struck first on a
Kalyn Harris jumper in the paint, but Cal Poly Pomona quickly found its rhythm from beyond the arc. The Broncos knocked down six three-pointers in the opening period, shooting 57 percent from the floor to build a 24-11 advantage after one.
Second Quarter
The Broncos continued their surge in the second, shooting 63 percent in the frame and outscoring the Warriors 30-10. Cal Poly Pomona dominated the paint and converted turnovers into points, stretching the lead to 54-21 at the break.
Third Quarter
The Warriors showed fight coming out of halftime, putting together their best offensive quarter of the night. Stan State shot 40 percent in the period and went 3-for-6 from three-point range. Davis sparked the surge with a pair of triples, and the Warriors scored 19 points in the quarter, but the Broncos maintained control with a 21-point frame of their own to lead 75-40 heading into the fourth.
Fourth Quarter
Stan State continued to compete down the stretch, getting inside buckets from
Cameron Gibson and
Amya Vangkham-Griffin. However, Cal Poly Pomona's efficiency on the night proved too much to overcome in the 87-50 final.

- Amya Vangkham-Griffin scored nine points off the bench, going 4-for-4 at the free throw line.

Stan State will then close the season on the road, visiting Cal State East Bay on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 5:30 p.m. in Hayward, Calif., before wrapping up the regular season at San Francisco State on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. in San Francisco, Calif.
