SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Stan State stayed within striking distance through the first half Saturday afternoon, but a decisive third quarter by Cal State San Bernardino sent the Warriors to a 70-49 setback in CCAA women's basketball at Coussoulis Arena.
Stan State slipped to 3-18 overall and 2-16 in the CCAA, while CSUSB improved to 11-12 overall and 8-9 in conference play.
First Quarter
Stan State came out with energy and competed possession by possession, trailing 20-16 after the opening 10 minutes.
Second Quarter
The Warriors tightened up defensively in the second, holding the Coyotes to 11 points in the frame. Stan State scored 14 points of its own and went into halftime down just one, 31-30, after battling back late in the period.
Third Quarter
CSUSB seized control out of the break, shooting 64.7 percent in the third quarter and outscoring Stan State 23-9. The Coyotes turned a one-point halftime edge into a 54-39 advantage heading into the final period.
Fourth Quarter
Stan State continued to compete down the stretch, but CSUSB maintained separation and closed out the 70-49 victory.

Karissa Hukill led Stan State with 12 points, going 5-for-7 at the free throw line.

Eryn Gardner recorded eight points and a team-high 18 rebounds in 33 minutes.

Kalyn Harris added eight points, while Quinn Garrett finished with six points and three assists.

Stan State shot 72.2 percent (13-for-18) from the free throw line and totaled 42 rebounds.

Stan State returns home next week to host Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 5:30 p.m. on Homecoming Night, followed by Cal State Los Angeles on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. on Senior Day, when the Warriors will recognize Krista Andersen and Alyssa Premo.
Stan State will then close the season on the road, visiting Cal State East Bay on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 5:30 p.m. in Hayward, Calif., before wrapping up the regular season at San Francisco State on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. in San Francisco, Calif.
