TURLOCK, Calif. — Stan State used a five-run third inning and a dominant complete-game performance from
Alexis Camberos to defeat Central Washington 6-1 on Friday afternoon at Warrior Softball Field. The win moves the Warriors to 5-2 overall and 2-0 in their home tournament.
Stan State collected nine hits, stole three bases and played error-free defense in the victory, while Camberos held the Wildcats to just one run on five hits across seven innings.
After two scoreless frames to open the contest, the Warriors broke through in the bottom of the third.
Maggie Pyke started the rally with a leadoff walk before
Moxie Barton laid down a bunt single.
Ava Montesdeoca followed with another bunt single to load the bases.
Malia Babasa then reached on a Central Washington error, allowing two runs to score. Babasa later stole second, and another run crossed the plate on a passed ball to make it 3-0.
Katelyn Bridgeman added an RBI single and eventually came around to score, and
Addie Meddings capped the inning with an RBI double to left field as Stan State built a 5-0 advantage.
Central Washington answered with its lone run in the top of the third, but Camberos (3-1) quickly regained control. The sophomore left-hander struck out six and walked two while throwing 88 pitches in her complete-game effort. She retired 10 of the final 12 batters she faced to secure the win.
Stan State added an insurance run in the seventh. Bridgeman singled and advanced to second on an error before
Nat Camarena singled to put runners on the corners. Meddings reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Bridgeman to score the final run of the afternoon.
Bridgeman led the Warriors offensively with a 3-for-4 performance and two runs scored. Babasa added two stolen bases, while Meddings drove in two runs. Pyke reached base twice and scored a run as Stan State finished with a 9-5 edge in hits.

Stan State continues play in its home tournament Saturday at 7 p.m. against Central Washington at Warrior Softball Field. The Warriors return to the field Sunday for a pair of games, facing Saint Martin's at 9 a.m. before taking on Menlo College at 2 p.m. in Turlock.
Stan State then hosts Simon Fraser in a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, Feb. 17, with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. and the second game set for 4 p.m. at Warrior Softball Field. All games will feature live stats and streaming on FloCollege.
