TURLOCK, Calif. — Stan State saw its six-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday evening despite an early lead, as the Warriors fell 11-2 in five innings to Simon Fraser at Warrior Softball Field.
With the loss, Stan State moves to 8-3 on the season, while Simon Fraser improves to 2-9. Game two of the scheduled doubleheader was canceled due to inclement weather.
The Warriors struck first in the bottom of the opening inning. Katelyn Bridgeman singled to center to ignite the offense, and Nat Camarena reached on an error to put two aboard. Addie Meddings followed with an RBI single to score Bridgeman, and Madison Rosebrough added an infield single that, coupled with another Red Leaf miscue, allowed Camarena to cross the plate for a 2-0 Stan State lead.
Simon Fraser responded with a seven-run second inning — five of the runs unearned — to take control at 7-2. Cassidy Affeldt delivered a three-run double in the frame, while Lizzy Sugrive and Makena Simmons each drove in runs as the Red Leafs capitalized on four Warrior errors.
The visitors added four more runs in the fifth inning to extend the margin. Affeldt drove in two with a single, Sugrive doubled home a run, and Hannah Houts added an RBI single to make it 11-2.
Monica Bourque (2-4) earned the win in the circle for Simon Fraser, allowing two unearned runs on six hits over five innings while striking out five.
Alexis Camberos started for Stan State and tossed 3.2 innings, allowing five runs (four earned). Nat Camarena (2-1) was charged with the loss in relief.
Meddings and Rosebrough each collected two hits to lead Stan State's six-hit effort. Bridgeman and Moxie Barton added one hit apiece.
