HAYWARD, Calif. – Stan State placed three players in double figures and pushed No. 2 Cal State East Bay into a late second-half battle Saturday night. Donjae Lindsey led the way with 18 points, while Malachi Johnson totaled 15 points and 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season and Malik Johnson added a season-high 14 points as the Warriors traded momentum deep into the second half before the nationally ranked Pioneers used their perimeter shooting to secure the decision.
With the loss to No. 2 Cal State East Bay (27-0, 21-0 CCAA), Stan State moves to 12-15 overall and 8-13 in conference play.
First Half
Stan State (12-15, 8-13 CCAA) came out aggressive, setting the tone offensively behind the interior play of Lindsey and strong guard production from the Johnson duo. The Warriors shot efficiently in the opening 20 minutes, attacking the rim and finding rhythm in transition. Defensively, Stan State disrupted East Bay's flow early, forcing turnovers and converting those opportunities into points. The Warriors matched the Pioneers on the glass and carried their energy into halftime with the game tightly contested as East Bay relied on its perimeter shooting to stay even.
Second Half
East Bay increased its defensive pressure after the break, applying a relentless press that challenged the Warriors' ball control. Stan State battled through 16 turnovers while continuing to execute offensively, with Lindsey finishing efficiently inside and Antony Newman-Gomez knocking down two key three-pointers to answer Pioneer runs. Malachi Johnson logged a team-high 35 minutes to help steady the pace, while Malik Johnson provided an efficient scoring punch, finishing 7-of-11 from the field. The Warriors matched East Bay rebound for rebound (32-32) and finished with 11 steals, keeping the contest within reach into the final minutes. Ultimately, the Pioneers' 58.3 percent shooting from three-point range proved decisive down the stretch as Cal State East Bay improved to 27-0 overall and 21-0 in the CCAA.
