Stan State picked up a hard-fought 67-61 overtime CCAA victory over Chico State Wednesday evening at Fitzpatrick Arena.
The Warriors delivered a resilient team performance across five periods, anchored by a dominant rebounding effort from Eryn Gardner. Stan State's control of the glass, particularly in key moments late, helped force overtime and fueled a 12-6 advantage in the extra frame to secure the home win.
First Quarter
Stan State opened the game with strong defensive energy and physical play inside. Gardner set the tone early on the glass, limiting second-chance opportunities and helping the Warriors control tempo. Stan State held Chico State to 14 points in the opening quarter and carried a 16-14 lead after one.
Second Quarter
Both teams battled through a physical second quarter as offense came at a premium. Gardner continued to clean the boards on both ends, allowing Stan State to stay composed despite shooting struggles. The Warriors' defensive rebounding prevented Chico State runs and helped preserve a 28-26 halftime advantage.
Third Quarter
Chico State made a push coming out of the break, but Stan State stayed within striking distance behind continued rebounding control. Gardner's presence in the paint limited second looks, while the Warriors forced turnovers to offset offensive challenges, entering the fourth quarter down just two.
Fourth Quarter
Stan State responded with poise in the final period, leaning on defensive rebounds and interior toughness to match Chico State basket for basket. Gardner secured multiple key rebounds late as the Warriors closed regulation strong and forced overtime tied at 55.
Overtime
The Warriors took control in overtime, capitalizing on extra possessions created on the glass. Gardner continued to dominate the paint, while Stan State converted timely free throws and defensive stops to outscore Chico State 12-6 and seal the 67-61 victory at The Fitz.
