TURLOCK, Calif. —
Stan State women's basketball battled through a competitive California Collegiate Athletic Association matchup Saturday afternoon, but Cal Poly Humboldt pulled away for a 72-61 decision at Fitzpatrick Arena.
The Warriors opened strong and remained within striking distance throughout, but Humboldt used a decisive third-quarter surge and consistent interior scoring to regain control and secure the road victory.
First Quarter
Stan State set the tone early, opening the game with confident offensive execution and defensive energy. The Warriors shot efficiently in the opening period and built a 19-15 lead, highlighted by balanced scoring and strong play in the paint.
Second Quarter
The contest remained tight in the second quarter as both teams traded baskets. Humboldt began to find its rhythm offensively, while Stan State continued to generate quality looks. The Warriors took a narrow 32-30 advantage into halftime after maintaining composure on both ends.
Third Quarter
Momentum shifted coming out of the break as Humboldt used a 23-point third quarter to create separation. Stan State continued to battle inside and attack the glass, but the Lumberjacks capitalized on second-chance opportunities and efficient scoring to take a 53-47 lead into the final period.
Fourth Quarter
The Warriors worked to close the gap in the fourth quarter, but Humboldt's offense remained steady down the stretch. Stan State continued to compete defensively and attack inside, yet the Lumberjacks converted timely baskets and free throws to hold off the comeback attempt.
Warrior Notables
• Alyssa Premo and Karissa Hukill each scored a team-high 15 points to lead Stan State offensively.
• Sara Davis recorded nine rebounds to pace the Warriors on the glass.
• Quinn Garrett and Kalyn Harris each added seven points.
• Stan State finished with 36 points in the paint and 19 bench points.
Stan State (3-16, 2-14 CCAA) will continue conference play next week as the Warriors prepare for their next CCAA matchup at Fitzpatrick Arena. Next week the Warriors will take on #9 Cal Poly Pomona who went 2-0 this weekend with wins over San Marcos and Monterey Bay, and then San Berardino who went 1-1 this weekend.
