Warriors Battle Against Strong Illinois State Squad, Turn Focus to PacWest Play

TURLOCK, Calif. – Stan State women's tennis faced a tough test Thursday afternoon at the Stan State Tennis Courts, competing hard across the lineup against Illinois State.

The Warriors entered the match with momentum following Wednesday's dramatic 4-3 win over No. 11 Hawai'i Pacific, and while the final score did not fall in their favor, the afternoon provided valuable experience against a disciplined and aggressive opponent.

Illinois State secured the doubles point and carried that early advantage into singles play. Despite the outcome, Stan State continued to compete point by point, using the match as an opportunity to sharpen execution and build consistency as conference play intensifies.

The Warriors have shown resilience throughout the homestand, highlighted by the emotional comeback win over Hawai'i Pacific just one day earlier. In that match, Stan State dropped the doubles point before rallying with four singles victories, including clutch performances from Abbigail Mulick, Parker Orlando, Maiah White, and Emi Mikami to secure the historic win.

That fight and energy now shifts back to PacWest competition.

Scouting Dominican

Stan State returns to conference play Sunday at 12:00 p.m. against Dominican at the Stan State Tennis Courts.

Dominican most recently fell 5-2 to Menlo in PacWest action. The Penguins secured the doubles point with a win at No. 2 doubles and earned singles victories at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions. Kaylee Lopez delivered a straight-set win at No. 3 singles, while Deepalakshmi Vanaraja earned a competitive two-set victory at No. 4.

Menlo claimed wins at the top two singles spots and at No. 5 and No. 6, suggesting Sunday's matchup could hinge on depth and control in the middle courts.

Stan State has found strength in that same area of the lineup in recent matches. Katrine Damkjær, Orlando, White, and Mikami have each produced key singles wins over the past two weeks, giving the Warriors balance entering Sunday's contest.

With momentum from a ranked win earlier this week and conference positioning at stake, Sunday presents an important opportunity for Stan State to protect home courts and continue climbing in PacWest play.

First serve is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. in Turlock.
