TURLOCK, Calif. — Stan State used timely hitting and a late rally to defeat Cal State San Bernardino 10–8 in Game One of Friday's CCAA doubleheader at Warrior Softball Field.
The Warriors improved to 12–9 overall and 1–4 in conference play with the win.
GAME ONE: Stan State 10, Cal State San Bernardino 8
Stan State struck first in the opening inning. Moxie Barton reached on a walk before Malia Babasa followed with a bunt single. Katelyn Bridgeman delivered an RBI single to put the Warriors on the board, and sacrifice flies from Addie Meddings and Nat Camarena pushed the lead to 3–0.
Cal State San Bernardino answered in the third inning, scoring four runs to take a 4–3 lead.
The Warriors quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning. Bridgeman tied the game with an RBI double, and Meddings followed with a run-scoring double to give Stan State a 5–4 advantage.
After the Coyotes regained the lead with a four-run sixth inning, the Warriors delivered their biggest response of the afternoon. Emily Bigley reached base to start the inning and Ava Montesdeoca followed with a single. With the bases loaded, Babasa was hit by a pitch to tie the game. Moments later, Meddings reached on an error that allowed two runs to score, giving the Warriors a 10–8 lead.
Meddings and Katrina Rodriguez delivered clutch at-bats throughout the contest, while Bridgeman continued her strong play at the plate with multiple hits and RBIs.
Alexis Camberos earned the win in relief to improve to 4–1 on the season as the Warriors closed out the Coyotes in the seventh inning.
GAME TWO: Stan State 4, CSU San Bernardino 2
Stan State secured the doubleheader sweep Friday afternoon with a 4–2 victory over Cal State San Bernardino at Warrior Softball Field.
The Warriors broke through in the third inning with a three-run rally. After Ava Montesdeoca and Moxie Barton reached base, Malia Babasa drove in the first run with an RBI single. Katelyn Bridgeman followed with another run-scoring hit before Addie Meddings added an RBI single to push the Stan State lead to 3–0.
CSU San Bernardino answered with single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to trim the deficit to one, but the Warriors responded in the bottom of the sixth. Katrina Rodriguez singled and later came around to score when Marley Hogue delivered a clutch RBI single up the middle to extend the lead to 4–2.
Alexandria Himes earned the win in the circle, allowing two runs on six hits while working through several key situations to keep the Coyotes from building momentum. Stan State finished with nine hits in the contest and played error-free defense.
The Warriors improved to 13–9 overall and 2–4 in CCAA play with the victory and will return to Warrior Softball Field Saturday for the final two games of the series against CSU San Bernardino.
