Barton Leads Warriors to Split in Chico

CHICO, Calif. — Stan State split Friday's CCAA doubleheader at Chico State, falling 4–1 in the opener before responding with a 3–1 victory in Game Two at Wildcat Softball Field.

The Warriors move to 15–11 overall and 4–6 in CCAA play.

GAME ONE: Chico State 4, Stan State 1

Stan State and Chico State were locked in a scoreless battle through five innings as both teams worked through scoring opportunities early.

The Warriors threatened in the second inning with runners in scoring position but were unable to break through. Stan State finally got on the board in the sixth inning when Moxie Barton delivered an RBI double to score Ava Montesdeoca and give the Warriors a 1–0 lead.

Chico State responded in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues to score four unearned runs and take a 4–1 advantage.

Stan State collected eight hits in the contest, with Barton, Maggie Pyke, and Ava Montesdeoca each recording extra-base hits, but were unable to answer late.

Alexandria Himes took the loss in the circle as the Warriors were unable to overcome the sixth-inning swing.

GAME TWO: Stan State 3, Chico State 1

The Warriors bounced back in Game Two behind timely hitting and strong pitching to earn the split.

Chico State struck first in the third inning, but Stan State responded in the fourth with a three-run frame.

After Madison Rosebrough doubled and McKenna Beach singled, the Warriors took advantage of Chico State defensive errors. Moxie Barton reached on an error that allowed all three runs to score, giving Stan State a 3–1 lead.

From there, the Warriors leaned on their pitching and defense. Nat Camarena earned the win in the circle, holding Chico State to one run while working through traffic and keeping the Wildcats off the board over the final innings.

Stan State finished with five hits in the game and played clean defense, limiting Chico State's opportunities late.
