CHICO, Calif. — Chico State swept Saturday's CCAA doubleheader from Stan State, taking a 4-1 decision in the opener and a 4-0 win in the nightcap at Wildcat Field.
Stan State moves to 15-13 overall and 4-8 in CCAA play, while Chico State improves to 14-14 overall and 8-8 in conference action.
In game one, Stan State and Chico State each recorded eight hits, but Stan State left 10 runners on base in a 4-1 loss.
Chico State struck first in the opening inning on an RBI double by Brianna Swihart, then added runs in the third and fourth innings to build a 3-0 lead.
Stan State got on the board in the fifth when
Malia Babasa reached and advanced on an error before
Katelyn Bridgeman drove her in with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 3-1.
Chico State answered in the bottom half of the inning, taking advantage of an error to extend its lead to 4-1. Stan State created multiple opportunities, including a bases-loaded situation in the second and another threat in the sixth, but was unable to capitalize.
Babasa led the offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Bridgeman finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while
Marley Hogue added two hits.
Alexis Camberos (4-2) took the loss, allowing three runs over four innings.
Alexandria Himes provided strong relief, giving up just one unearned run over two innings. Amelie Valdez (8-5) earned the win for Chico State, tossing a complete game and allowing one unearned run on eight hits.
In game two, Chico State used a three-run first inning and a complete-game shutout to secure the sweep with a 4-0 win.
The Wildcats capitalized early before Ali Lewis delivered a two-run home run to give Chico a quick 3-0 lead.
Chico State added an insurance run in the fifth to make it 4-0.
Stan State was limited to three hits but mounted a late threat in the seventh when
Marley Hogue and
Addie Meddings recorded back-to-back singles. Chico State was able to escape the inning to preserve the shutout. Hogue led the way, going 2-for-3, while Meddings added the other hit.
Nat Camarena (4-5) was charged with the loss after the early runs, while Himes again delivered a strong outing in relief, allowing just one run over 5.1 innings.
Bella Tavares (4-6) earned the win for Chico State, throwing a complete-game shutout and allowing just three hits.

Cal State San Marcos leads the CCAA with a 14-2 record, followed by No. 3 Cal State East Bay at 8-4. Chico State (8-8) sits in third, with Cal Poly Humboldt in fourth at 6-6. Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State San Bernardino are both 7-9, while Cal State Dominguez Hills is 6-10. Stan State and San Francisco State are both 4-8 in conference play, with all teams still in the mix for a postseason spot. The top five teams will advance to the 2026 CCAA Softball Championships, scheduled for May 6-9 in Hayward.

Stan State returns home for a key four-game CCAA series against No. 3 Cal State East Bay on Thursday and Friday at Warrior Softball Field, with doubleheaders scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on April 2 and 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on April 3.
