Walk-Off Win, Offensive Surge Help Stan State Take Series from Otters

TURLOCK, Calif. — Sadie Salas delivered a walk-off two-run single to cap a five-run comeback and lift Stan State to a 6-5 win in Saturday's opener, as the Warriors went on to complete the sweep with an 11-5 victory over Cal State Monterey Bay at Warrior Field.

After splitting Friday's twinbill, the Warriors improved to 20-19 overall and 9-15 in conference play, while Cal State Monterey Bay moved to 26-20 overall and 9-16 in the CCAA. The series win marked Stan State's second of the season, with both coming in CCAA play.

In game one, Cal State Monterey Bay grabbed momentum early with three runs in the opening inning and added two more in the fourth to build a 5-0 lead. The Warriors chipped away in the bottom of the fifth, scoring four times to get back within one. Katelyn Bridgeman delivered a two-run double to right center and Marley Hogue followed with an RBI single to help spark the comeback.

Stan State kept the Otters off the board the rest of the way behind Alexis Camberos, who entered in relief in the fourth inning and shut down Monterey Bay over the final four frames. Camberos (5-8) allowed just two hits and one run while striking out one to earn the win. Mikaya Griego (3-3) was charged with the loss for the Otters.

Trailing 5-4 entering the seventh, the Warriors mounted one final push. Hogue opened the inning with a single, Nat Camarena followed with a base hit and Addie Meddings moved both runners up with a sacrifice bunt. After Monterey Bay recorded an out at the plate, Salas came through with the game-winning hit, lining a two-run single to left field to score Emily Bigley and Maggie Pyke for the 6-5 walk-off victory.

Bridgeman finished with two RBIs, Hogue went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Salas drove in the final two runs of the game.

In game two, Stan State answered every Monterey Bay punch and pulled away late for an 11-5 win. The Otters scored twice in the first and added two more in the second, but the Warriors matched that with a four-run bottom of the first. Nat Camarena started the response with an RBI single, Addie Meddings followed with a two-run single and Sadie Salas drew a bases-loaded walk to give Stan State a 4-2 lead.

Monterey Bay tied the game at 4-4 in the second and went back in front 5-4 on Grace Boyd's solo home run in the fourth. Stan State answered immediately in the bottom half. Katelyn Bridgeman's sacrifice fly tied the game, and Marley Hogue followed with an RBI single to plate Ava Montesdeoca and give the Warriors the lead for good at 6-5.

The Warriors added one more run in the fifth before breaking the game open with a four-run sixth. Bridgeman doubled to start the inning, Camarena brought in one with a bunt, Madison Rosebrough followed with an RBI double, and Celine Ramos capped the surge with a sacrifice fly.

Camarena (5-8) earned the win in game two after allowing five runs over six innings with four strikeouts. Kadence Nulick (8-8) took the loss for Monterey Bay. Camberos tossed a scoreless seventh to close it out.

Stan State pounded out 14 hits in the nightcap, led by Montesdeoca's 3-for-5 effort with an RBI and two stolen bases. Bridgeman went 2-for-3 with an RBI, Hogue had two hits and two RBIs, Camarena was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, Meddings drove in two and Rosebrough added three hits and an RBI.
