Softball Falls Twice at CSUDH in Friday Doubleheader


CARSON, Calif. — Stan State dropped both games of Friday's doubleheader at Cal State Dominguez Hills, falling 6-0 in the opener and 3-0 in the nightcap at Toro Diamond.

The Warriors move to 19-21 overall and 18-20 in CCAA play, while Cal State Dominguez Hills improves to 33-20 on the season.

In game one, the Toros broke through in the third inning with an RBI single by Marisa Dominguez and added another run in the fourth on a solo home run from Savanna Kastigar to take a 2-0 lead.

Stan State had its best scoring opportunity in the third inning. Moxie Barton led off with a bunt single, Ava Montesdeoca advanced her with a sacrifice bunt, and Katelyn Bridgeman later drew an intentional walk. Marley Hogue followed with a walk to load the bases, but the Warriors were unable to push a run across.

Cal State Dominguez Hills put the game away in the sixth inning, scoring four runs on five hits to extend the lead to 6-0.

The Warriors were limited to just two hits in the contest, coming from Bridgeman and Barton. Hogue reached base twice via walks to lead Stan State's offensive efforts.

Alexandria Himes (9-5) took the loss, tossing 5.2 innings while allowing six runs on 12 hits. Alexis Camberos recorded the final out in the inning in relief.
Ashley Ogata (14-4) earned the win for the Toros, tossing a complete-game shutout while allowing two hits and striking out six.

In game two, Stan State was again held scoreless despite recording five hits in a 3-0 loss.

Cal State Dominguez Hills struck early with a run in the first inning on an RBI single by Tori Au and added another in the second on a solo home run from Andrea Tellez to build a 2-0 lead.

The Warriors threatened in multiple innings, including the fourth when Marley Hogue singled and McKenna Beach drew a walk to put two runners on, but Stan State was unable to capitalize.

The Toros added an insurance run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Michaela Meza to extend the lead to 3-0.

Malia Babasa, Hogue, Ava Montesdeoca, Madison Rosebrough and Addie Meddings each recorded a hit for the Warriors.

Alexis Camberos (5-5) took the loss in game two, allowing three runs on eight hits over six innings while striking out one.

Audrey Gallegos (7-8) earned the complete-game shutout for Cal State Dominguez Hills, allowing five hits and striking out three.

CCAA Standings

Cal State San Marcos continues to lead the conference at 24-4, followed by Cal State East Bay at 18-8. Cal State Dominguez Hills moved to .500 in conference play at 15-15 and sits in third.

Cal Poly Humboldt (11-12) holds fourth place, while Cal State Monterey Bay and Chico State are tied for fifth at 10-15.

Cal State San Bernardino (9-14) and San Francisco State (9-15) remain just behind, while Stan State sits at 8-16 in CCAA play as the regular season winds down.

The top five teams at the end of the regular season will advance to the CCAA Softball Championships, scheduled for May 6–9 in Hayward, Calif.

Both teams came into this series receiving votes.

Around the CCAA

Friday's action saw Cal State Monterey Bay defeat Cal State San Bernardino 9-6 in Seaside, while Cal Poly Humboldt topped Chico State 3-1 in Arcata.

Cal State East Bay swept San Francisco State in a doubleheader, winning 2-1 and 8-6 in Hayward.

Stan State dropped both games of its doubleheader at Cal State Dominguez Hills, falling 6-0 and 3-0.

Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State San Bernardino are currently playing game two of their series in Seaside, while Chico State and Cal Poly Humboldt are also in action in game two of their doubleheader in Arcata.

Up Next

The Warriors will play their final road games of the regular season on Saturday in Carson, Calif., concluding the four-game CCAA series against Cal State Dominguez Hills with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.

Stan State will then wrap up the regular season at home, hosting Cal Poly Humboldt in a four-game conference series May 1–2 at Warrior Softball Field. The series finale on May 2 will serve as Senior Day, honoring Malia Babasa, McKenna Beach and Emily Bigley.
