CARSON, Calif. — Stan State closed out its regular season road schedule on Saturday, falling 5-2 and 3-2 to Cal State Dominguez Hills in a CCAA doubleheader at Toro Diamond.
The Warriors move to 19-23 overall and 8-18 in CCAA play, while the Toros improve to 35-20 overall and 17-15 in conference action.
In game one, Stan State struck first in the second inning as Celine Ramos delivered an RBI double down the left field line to score Marley Hogue for a 1-0 lead.
Cal State Dominguez Hills responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning, taking advantage of two Warrior errors to build a 4-1 advantage.
Stan State answered in the third inning when Ava Montesdeoca singled and later scored on an RBI single by Malia Babasa to cut the deficit to 4-2.
The Toros added an insurance run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Tori Au to extend the lead to 5-2.
Hogue led the Warriors at the plate, going 2-for-3, while Barton, Babasa, Ramos and Montesdeoca each added a hit.
Nat Camarena (5-9) took the loss despite allowing just two earned runs over six innings, scattering 13 hits.
Ashley Ogata (10-4) earned the complete-game victory for Cal State Dominguez Hills, allowing two runs on six hits.
In game two, the Warriors battled but came up just short in a 3-2 loss.
Cal State Dominguez Hills took a 2-0 lead in the third inning on RBI hits from Mireya Rico and Andrea Tellez.
Stan State responded in the fourth inning when Moxie Barton reached on a bunt single and Katelyn Bridgeman followed with a two-run home run to right center, tying the game at 2-2.
The Toros answered in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on a Warrior error to plate the go-ahead run and take a 3-2 lead.
The Warriors threatened late but were unable to push across the equalizer.
Bridgeman led the offense, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Barton and Addie Meddings each added a hit.
Alexis Camberos (5-5) took the loss, allowing two runs over three innings. Alexandria Himes pitched the final three innings in relief, surrendering one unearned run.
Audrey Gallegos (8-8) earned the complete-game win for the Toros, allowing two runs on four hits.
CCAA Standings
Cal State San Marcos continues to lead the conference at 24-4, followed by Cal State East Bay at 19-9.
Cal Poly Humboldt (14-12) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (17-15) currently sit in the top four, with Cal State Monterey Bay holding the fifth and final postseason spot at 12-16.
Cal State San Bernardino and San Francisco State are both 10-16, while Chico State sits at 10-18. Stan State is 8-18 in conference play with four games remaining in the regular season.
The top five teams at the end of the regular season will advance to the CCAA Softball Championship Tournament, scheduled for May 6–9 in Hayward, Calif.
