TURLOCK, Calif. — Stan State opened its final home series of the regular season with a 10–7 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills on Friday evening at Warrior Baseball Diamond. The Warriors jumped out to an early lead, but a four-run eighth inning by the Toros proved to be the difference.
Stan State moved to 18–23 overall and 9–15 in CCAA play, while Dominguez Hills improved to 17–21 overall and 9–16 in conference action.
The Warriors built momentum early and carried it into the middle innings.
Stan State struck first in the opening frame when Arthur Navarette Jr. singled and later scored on a Chris Ortiz two-run double to right center, giving the Warriors a 2–1 lead.
The offense exploded in the second inning. Chase Wilson singled and Tyler Crudo was hit by a pitch before Zach Lewis drew a walk to load the bases. Ortiz delivered again with a two-run single, and Cameron Taylor followed with an RBI single. Mason Kelley capped the inning with an RBI double to push the lead to 6–1.
Cal State Dominguez Hills answered in the third with three runs on a pair of home runs to cut the deficit to 6–4.
Stan State added an insurance run in the fifth when Kian Sanchez singled through the left side to score Kelley and extend the lead to 7–4.
After Dominguez Hills trimmed the deficit to 7–5 with a solo home run in the seventh, the Toros rallied in the eighth. With runners on base, the Toros strung together timely hits and walks, scoring four runs to take a 9–7 lead.
Dominguez Hills added another run in the ninth on an RBI double to make it 10–7.
Stan State had a chance in the bottom of the ninth, putting two runners on base, but could not complete the comeback.
The Warriors finished with 12 hits in the contest. Chris Ortiz led the way, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, while Mason Kelley went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Zach Lewis scored twice, and Cameron Taylor added an RBI.
Evan Fanconi started on the mound and went 7.0 innings, allowing five runs while striking out six. Pierce Sailer (1–1) was charged with the loss after allowing four runs in the eighth inning, while Jared Sawyer finished the final inning in relief.
Cal State Dominguez Hills totaled 11 hits, with Deegan Grgas recording three hits and driving in three runs. Quinn Johnson added three hits and an RBI, while Tristan Usher drove in four runs. Tyler Ohlson improved to 2–0 with the win in relief, and Julian Castro recorded his fifth save.

Cal State Monterey Bay leads the CCAA standings at 17-8 in conference play and 32-11 overall. Cal Poly Pomona is second at 17-11 (26-17 overall), followed by Cal State San Marcos at 14-11 (27-13 overall) and Cal State LA at 15-14 (25-22 overall).
Cal State San Bernardino sits at 12-13 (20-22 overall), while Cal State East Bay is 12-14 (21-23 overall). Chico State is 11-14 (22-21 overall), while Stan State is 9-15 (18-23 overall) and Cal State Dominguez Hills is 9-16 (17-21 overall).
The top five teams at the conclusion of the regular season will advance to the CCAA Baseball Championship Tournament, scheduled for May 6–9 in San Bernardino.
This Week in the CCAA
Conference play continued Friday across the CCAA with several key results. Cal State East Bay and Cal State San Bernardino split a doubleheader (8-6 East Bay, 9-2 San Bernardino), while Cal State San Marcos defeated Cal State LA 12-8. Chico State topped No. 11 Cal State Monterey Bay 6-1, and Cal State Dominguez Hills defeated Stan State 10-7 in Turlock. Cal Poly Pomona also picked up a 3-2 non-conference win over Westmont.
The weekend continues Saturday with doubleheaders across the conference. Stan State hosts Cal State Dominguez Hills at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., while Cal State East Bay remains at Cal State San Bernardino and Cal State LA continues its series at Cal State San Marcos. Cal State Monterey Bay faces Chico State in a doubleheader in Chico, while Cal Poly Pomona continues non-conference play at Westmont.
Sunday's series finales are set for 11 a.m. or noon across the conference, including Stan State hosting Cal State Dominguez Hills at 12 p.m. to wrap up the final home series of the regular season.
