TURLOCK, Calif. — No. 7 Cal State East Bay swept Friday's CCAA doubleheader from Stan State, taking an 8-3 decision in the opener and a 3-2 win in the nightcap at Warrior Softball Field.
Stan State moves to 16-16 overall and 5-11 in CCAA play, while Cal State East Bay improves to 29-7 overall and 11-4 in conference action.
In game one, Cal State East Bay broke open a tight game with a five-run fifth inning on the way to an 8-3 victory.
The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the second, added an unearned run in the third, and pushed the advantage to 3-0 in the fourth on a wild pitch.
Stan State answered in the bottom of the fourth.
Ava Montesdeoca singled up the middle and
Malia Babasa reached on a bunt before
Katelyn Bridgeman doubled down the left field line.
Marley Hogue followed with a sacrifice fly, and
Addie Meddings drove in another run with a single through the left side to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Cal State East Bay responded with five runs in the fifth to regain control. The inning featured six hits, including a two-run double by Jeslyn Cuellar, an RBI sacrifice fly by Rylee Gomez, and an RBI single by Jasmyn Morales.
Stan State added its final run in the sixth when Bridgeman singled and scored on Meddings' RBI double to right field.
Bridgeman went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, while Meddings finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Montesdeoca and
Madison Rosebrough also had hits for the Warriors.
Nat Camarena (4-6) took the loss, allowing eight runs, seven earned, over 4.1 innings.
Alexis Camberos provided 2.2 scoreless innings of relief.
Ally Fuentes (2-0) earned the complete-game win for Cal State East Bay, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out four.
In game two, Stan State carried a one-run lead into the seventh inning before Cal State East Bay rallied for a 3-2 victory.
After five scoreless innings, the Pioneers broke through in the sixth when Cynthia Carrillo scored on Isabel Mercado's RBI double to right center.
Stan State answered in the bottom half of the inning. Bridgeman singled, and after a walk,
Nat Camarena delivered a single to right. A throwing error on the play allowed two runs to score, giving the Warriors a 2-1 lead.
Cal State East Bay responded in the seventh. After a leadoff single and sacrifice bunt, Brynn Block doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Jeslyn Cuellar tied the game with an RBI single, and Rylee Gomez followed with the go-ahead RBI single.
Stan State put a runner aboard in the bottom of the seventh, but the comeback fell short.
Alexandria Himes was strong in the start, tossing 6.0 innings while allowing one run on six hits with one walk and one strikeout on 69 pitches.
Moxie Barton (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing two runs in the seventh. Marissa Quintero (20-2) earned the win for Cal State East Bay, allowing two unearned runs on four hits in a complete-game effort.

No. 2 Cal State San Marcos continues to lead the conference at 18-2, followed by No. 7 Cal State East Bay at 11-5 after sweeping Stan State on Friday. Cal Poly Humboldt sits in third at 7-6 after taking game one of its series with Cal State Monterey Bay, which is now 7-10, with the teams set to finish the series Saturday in Arcata. San Francisco State (7-8) and Chico State (8-11) are wrapping up their series finale, while Cal State San Bernardino is 7-9. Stan State is 5-11, followed by Cal State Dominguez Hills at 6-14, as the race for the top five spots remains tight. In order, the standings are Cal State San Marcos (18-2), Cal State East Bay (11-5), Cal Poly Humboldt (7-6), San Francisco State (7-8), Cal State San Bernardino (7-9), Chico State (8-11), Cal State Monterey Bay (7-10), Stan State (5-11) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-14).
