TURLOCK, Calif.---Stan State begins CCAA play at home this weekend looking to build on the momentum of Saturday's 2-0 shutout victory over Dominican. The Warriors host Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. before welcoming Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 4 p.m. Stan State enters conference play 2-2-2 overall and unbeaten at Warrior Stadium with a 2-0-2 record.

POWELL IN FOURTH SEASON AT HELM
Stan State head coach John Powell is in his fourth season leading his alma mater and sixth season overall as a collegiate head coach. Powell is 30-20-2 at Stan State and 56-38-15 overall. His 30 victories rank third in program history, making him the third Stan State head coach to reach the milestone.

Powell guided the Warriors to a 17-2-1 record in 2025, their first CCAA Tournament Championship since 2012 and deepest NCAA postseason run with an appearance in the NCAA Division II Third Round. Stan State also spent two weeks ranked No. 1 nationally and established a program-record 14-match unbeaten streak.

Five Warriors earned United Soccer Coaches All-America honors in 2025, led by First Team selections Gerardo Flores and Ian Reis. Angel Ruiz-Hernandez and Samuel Villanueva earned Second Team honors, while Emmanuel Duran was named to the Third Team. Powell was named CCAA Coach of the Year, and the staff earned United Soccer Coaches West Region Coaching Staff of the Year honors.

Powell's current staff features three former Stan State soccer players in Eduardo Lopez, Jenna Zuniga and Reis. Lopez played for the Warriors from 2010-13, Zuniga played for the women's program from 2017-21 before competing professionally in Sweden and Germany, and Reis joined the staff as a student assistant after earning First Team All-America and CCAA Tournament Defensive MVP honors in 2025.

WEEKEND RECAP
Stan State went 1-0-1 during its final weekend of non-conference play, battling Hawaii Pacific to a 3-3 draw Thursday before shutting out Dominican 2-0 on Saturday at Warrior Stadium.

Alexis Cervantes recorded a brace against Hawaii Pacific, while Colin Davis scored his first goal of the season. Jose Ponce assisted on the first two Warrior goals, Gerardo Flores assisted on Cervantes' first goal, and Jose Tizoc and Adrian Yepez assisted on his second.

Against Dominican, Emmanuel Duran recorded a goal and an assist, while Hugo Canedo scored the game-winner. Leo Avalos and Duran assisted on Canedo's goal, while Yepez assisted on Duran's second-half goal. 

Dylan Isasi played all 180 minutes in goal and recorded seven saves. He made five saves against Dominican to earn his first clean sheet as a Warrior. Stan State scored five goals and held a 30-25 advantage in shots during the two matches.

WARRIORS IN REVIEW
Stan State enters CCAA play 2-2-2 overall and unbeaten at Warrior Stadium with a 2-0-2 record. The Warriors have scored 11 goals through six matches while averaging 1.83 goals and 12.5 shots per match. Stan State has recorded 14 assists on its 11 goals.

Cervantes leads the Warriors with five goals and 10 points along with team highs of 19 shots and 10 shots on goal. Yepez has one goal and a team-leading four assists for six points. Duran and Flores each have a goal and an assist for three points, while Ponce has three assists.

Isasi has played all 540 minutes in goal, recording 19 saves, a .655 save percentage and a 1.67 goals-against average. He enters conference play coming off his first clean sheet as a Warrior.

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
Stan State enters CCAA play unbeaten at Warrior Stadium this season with a 2-0-2 record. The Warriors went 8-1-1 at home during their historic 2025 campaign and are 10-1-3 over their last 14 matches at Warrior Stadium.  Under Powell, Stan State is 14-8-7 at Warrior Stadium, including a 10-1-3 mark since the beginning of the 2025 season.

CCAA LEADERS
Cervantes enters conference play among the CCAA leaders in several offensive categories. He is third in the conference with five goals and fifth with 10 points. Cervantes also leads the CCAA with 19 shots and is tied for third with 10 shots on goal.

Yepez is third in the CCAA with four assists, while Ponce is sixth with three assists. Canedo is tied for eighth in the conference with one game-winning goal.

In goal, Isasi is eighth in the CCAA with 3.17 saves per match and tied for eighth with one shutout. He has recorded 19 saves through six matches.

NCAA LEADERS
As of Sept. 12, Stan State ranks among the NCAA Division II top 30 in three team categories. The Warriors are 10th nationally with 14 total assists, 17th with 2.33 assists per match and 27th with 36 total points.  Individually, Cervantes ranks 10th with five goals, 15th with 10 total points and 26th with 0.83 goals per match. Yepez is tied for fifth nationally with four total assists and ranks 25th with 0.67 assists per match.

WARRIOR RECORD BOOK
Yepez is third on Stan State's career assists list with 12, trailing only Samuel Villanueva with 17 and Nolan Holdridge with 15. Yepez has six goals and 12 assists for 24 career points, five shy of the career top 10. His seven assists in 2025 also rank fourth on the program's single-season list.

Duran enters CCAA play tied for ninth on Stan State's career goals list with 11. He is one goal from tying Tony Amaral for eighth with 12. Duran has 11 goals and four assists for 26 career points, three shy of the career top 10. His 10 goals in 2025 rank fifth on the program's single-season list.

Flores enters the weekend with 10 career goals and 27 career points. He is one goal shy of joining Duran and three others in ninth place on the career goals list and two points shy of the career top 10. Flores recorded nine goals, six assists and 24 points in 2025, with all three totals ranking among Stan State's single-season top 10.

SCOUTING CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY
Cal State Monterey Bay enters CCAA play 4-1 overall after winning its first four matches of the season before falling 4-2 at Point Loma on Saturday. The Otters have also defeated Dominican 4-3, Jessup 3-1, Cal State East Bay 7-1 and Vanguard 1-0.

CSUMB has scored 17 goals through five matches, averaging 3.4 goals per contest. Kai Martin leads the Otters with six goals and 12 points, while Philip Wolny has two goals and a team-high five assists for nine points. Mason Ward has three goals, one assist and two game-winning goals, while Sylas Sells has two goals and three assists for seven points.

Griffin Welch has played 441 minutes in goal and is 4-1 with a 1.84 goals-against average, 20 saves, a .690 save percentage and one shutout.

SERIES HISTORY VS. CAL STATE MONTEREY BAY
Stan State leads the series against Cal State Monterey Bay 18-11-6 since 1997, including a 9-5-3 record against the Otters in Turlock.

The Warriors won last season's meeting 4-1 in Seaside. Christian Brenes tied the match in the 25th minute before Stan State scored three times in the second half. Duran scored the eventual game-winner, followed by goals from Yepez and Cervantes. Flores recorded two assists, while Landon Leal Ruiz also had two assists and Sebastian Carbajal added one.

Cal State Monterey Bay won the most recent meeting at Warrior Stadium 3-1 in 2023. Over the last 10 meetings, Stan State is 3-5-2 against the Otters.

SCOUTING CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS
Cal State Dominguez Hills enters the week 1-2-2 overall. The Toros defeated Vanguard 4-1 in their season opener before falling 3-0 to St. Edward's, tying Western Oregon 2-2 and Point Loma 1-1, and falling 3-2 to Texas A&M International in their most recent match.

CSUDH will host Concordia University Irvine on Tuesday at 7 p.m. before traveling to UC Merced for an 8 p.m. match Friday prior to facing Stan State on Sunday afternoon.

The Toros have scored nine goals through five matches while averaging 1.8 goals and 12.8 shots per match. Juan Calderon leads the team with two goals, one assist and five points. Jose Peredia and Amaury Sanders have each scored twice, while Justin Cuevas has the team's lone game-winning goal.

Keegan O'Brien has played the majority of the minutes in goal, posting a 1-1-2 record with a 1.82 goals-against average, 14 saves and a .667 save percentage. The Toros have yet to record a shutout this season.

SERIES HISTORY VS. CAL STATE DOMINGUEZ HILLS
Cal State Dominguez Hills leads the series 11-4-4 since 2007. Stan State is 3-4-1 against the Toros in Turlock.

The Warriors fell 1-0 at CSUDH last season in a match-up between nationally ranked teams. Christian Briseno scored the match's only goal in the 12th minute. Stan State outshot the Toros 15-5, including 6-2 in shots on goal, and held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

The most recent meeting at Warrior Stadium ended in a 0-0 draw in 2024. Stan State's last regular-season victory over CSUDH was a 2-0 win at Warrior Stadium in 2015. Later that season, the teams played to a 1-1 draw in the CCAA Tournament in Pomona, with the Warriors advancing 3-1 on penalty kicks.
