TURLOCK, Calif.---Adrian Yepez scored his second goal of the season as Stan State battled Cal State Monterey Bay to a 1-1 draw Friday evening at Warrior Stadium to begin CCAA play.
The Otters struck first just 4:35 into the match on Philip Wolny's third goal of the season, but the Warriors answered in the 26th minute when Yepez scored off an assist from
Michael Daley. Neither side found the deciding goal over the final 64 minutes as Stan State moved to 2-2-3 overall and 0-0-1 in CCAA play. Cal State Monterey Bay moved to 4-1-1 and 0-0-1.
The draw extended Stan State's unbeaten streak to five matches, with the Warriors going 2-0-3 during the stretch.
FIRST HALF
Stan State generated the first opportunity just over a minute into the match when
Cameron Belandres sent an attempt high.
Cal State Monterey Bay took an early 1-0 lead at the 4:35 mark. Cameron Fisk set up Wolny, who scored his third goal of the season.
The Warriors began creating pressure midway through the half.
Emmanuel Duran had an attempt blocked in the 17th minute before Belandres had another shot blocked in the 21st.
Stan State found the equalizer at 25:53. Daley set up Yepez, who scored his second goal of the season to even the match at 1-1.
Dylan Isasi helped keep the match tied with a pair of first-half saves, stopping Mason Ward in the 22nd minute and Fernando Caballero in the 43rd. The teams entered halftime tied at 1-1 with six shots apiece.
SECOND HALF
Stan State controlled the shot advantage in the second half, outshooting the Otters 6-3.
Belandres had three opportunities during the opening 23 minutes of the half, including back-to-back blocked attempts in the 68th minute.
Cal State Monterey Bay was reduced to 10 players in the 70th minute when Wolny was shown a red card. The Warriors continued to press, with
Kenneth Solares having an attempt blocked immediately following the red card.
Yepez had an attempt blocked in the 81st minute before
Gerardo Flores sent the Warriors' final shot high in the 86th. Neither team found the go-ahead goal as the match finished 1-1.
Stan State finished with a 12-9 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. The Warriors held Cal State Monterey Bay to three shots in the second half. Isasi finished with two saves.
