SAN MARCOS, Calif.--- Stan State women's soccer saw its six-match unbeaten streak and its unbeaten start to CCAA play come to an end Sunday morning with a 1-0 loss to Cal State San Marcos at The Cage. Abby LaRocca scored the match's only goal in the 67th minute as the Warriors fell to 4-2-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Stan State has nine points through its first four CCAA matches.
First Half
The two teams played an even opening 45 minutes, finishing the half tied 0-0 with three shots apiece.
Cal State San Marcos generated the first scoring opportunity in the fourth minute, but
Zara Mujica stopped Karli Sikes' attempt. Stan State answered with back-to-back chances in the 10th minute as
Olivia Maragos and
Kayla Perez both put shots on goal, but Cougars goalkeeper Keira Patterson made both saves.
The Warriors continued to create opportunities later in the half.
Aliah Avila put a shot on frame in the 36th minute, but Patterson made her third save of the period to keep the match scoreless.
Cal State San Marcos held a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks during the opening half, while Stan State placed all three of its shots on goal.
Second Half
Stan State had the first opportunity of the second half when Avila sent an attempt wide in the 52nd minute.
Mujica kept the match scoreless with a save on Makynzie McDaniel in the 56th minute, but Cal State San Marcos broke through at the 66:47 mark. LaRocca scored an unassisted goal for her second of the season to give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
The Warriors continued to push for the equalizer.
Kyndra Obermeyer placed a shot on goal in the 79th minute, but Patterson made the save. Stan State earned a corner kick in the 83rd minute before
Franchesca Maiden generated one final opportunity in the 89th. Patterson stopped Maiden's attempt to preserve the shutout.
Cal State San Marcos finished with an 8-6 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in corner kicks. Stan State placed five of its six shots on goal, while the Cougars finished with three shots on frame. Patterson made five saves for the shutout, while Mujica finished with two saves.
