SAN DIEGO--- Aliah Avila scored her second goal in as many matches and
Zara Mujica made seven saves, including a penalty-kick stop in the 75th minute, as Stan State women's soccer battled Point Loma to a 1-1 draw Thursday afternoon at PLNU Soccer Field. Avila gave the Warriors the lead early in the second half before Point Loma's Nikki Ross equalized eight minutes later. Mujica's penalty-kick save kept the match even as Stan State moved to 1-1-1 on the season. Point Loma also moved to 1-1-1.
First Half
Stan State and Point Loma played through a scoreless opening 45 minutes. The Warriors generated a pair of early corner kicks before Loreno Moreno recorded Stan State's first shot on goal in the 28th minute, forcing Point Loma goalkeeper Bea Levi to make the save.
The Warriors held a 5-4 advantage in shots during the first half. Point Loma put its lone shot on goal of the period on frame in the final seconds, but Mujica stopped Grace Nelson to send the teams into halftime scoreless.
Second Half
Stan State broke through in the 55th minute. Avila found the back of the net at the 54:31 mark to give the Warriors a 1-0 advantage. The goal was Avila's second of the season and 19th of her career. Point Loma answered at the 62:59 mark when Ross scored to even the match at 1-1. The Sea Lions continued to pressure the Warriors, but Mujica came up with several key saves to keep the match even.
Point Loma was awarded a penalty kick in the 75th minute, but Mujica denied Ross to preserve the 1-1 tie. She added another save on Maddy Saruwatari in the 84th minute as the Warriors held Point Loma scoreless over the final 27 minutes to secure the draw.
Mujica finished with seven saves, six of which came in the second half. Point Loma finished with a 15-9 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in shots on goal, while the Sea Lions held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
