TURLOCK -- The Warriors cut down on their turnovers and played better Saturday night against a conference champion, but came up short in the end as Tampa defeated Cal State Stanislaus 75-64 at the Eva Schicke Memorial Classic presented by Stanislaus Farm Supply.

Center Katie Busi led the Warriors with 15 points and 9 rebounds in an impressive showing as a freshman while Gwendolyn Page added 13 points and six boards in 15 minutes of play for Stanislaus. Shristy Kumar chipped in 11.

The Warriors went 0-2 at the tournament and will travel to Nampa, Idaho on Thanksgiving weekend to take part in the Hampton Inn Classic at Northwest Nazarene.

"Katie is progressing nicely for us and she's extremely coachable," CSUS head coach Sharon Turner-Dean said. "She is confident and she's good and she is going to get better. I am very excited about her and this year's team."

Busi scored six of her points and grabbed seven of her rebounds in the first half to help pace the Warriors. She finished 6 of 12 from the floor and nailed two three-pointers on two attempts. She also led the team with a couple of steals.

Sheena Walton, a honorable mention All-American pick, scored a career high 31 points and had 11 rebounds on 11 of 17 shooting to lead Tampa (1-1). DeShaydia Mackey and Hailee Sullivan each chipped in 11 points for the Spartans.

"We played better tonight and cut down our turnovers, but we still have a lot to learn and improve on obviously," Turner-Dean said. "This is why I brought in tough teams like these (teams). We can learn a lot from these types of games and losses."

Stanislaus committed 17 points Saturday night after making 37 turnovers the night before against Northwest Nazarene.

Cal State Stanislaus played well in the early goings of the game.
