Wolf Pack drops Warriors in New Year's Eve Matinee

RENO, Nev. --- Duane Jones had 19 points to lead the Warriors, but the Cal State Stanislaus men's basketball team dropped a 104-75 decision to the University of Nevada-Reno on New Year's Eve afternoon.

Jones, a senior guard, was 6 of 16 from the field with three three-pointers and made four free throws to lead the Warriors. CSUS dropped to 2-7 overall before returning to California Collegiate Athletic Association action on Friday. Jones also had seven assists and four steals for a solid all-around game against the Division I program.

Richard Maraker scored 14 points on 5 of 6 shooting with four treys in just 11 minutes off the bench.

UNO (8-5), winner of six of last seven games, was led by JaVale McGee with 18 points and 11 rebounds plus four blocked shots. Demarshay Johnson and Marcelus Kemp each added 19 points for the Wolf Pack.

Stanislaus hung close early and pulled within one on a 3-pointer by Jones with 14:22 to go in the first half but saw that gap stretch to 20 just 12 minutes later. UNO took a 56-35 halftime lead.

The Warriors will resume conference play on Friday when they host San Francisco State Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
