TURLOCK, Calif.---This past weekend, the Stan State men's basketball team participated in several community service opportunities, volunteering with local organizations and supporting educational and community programs.
Crowell Elementary Pumpkin Patch
On Friday, the Warriors volunteered with the Kiwanis Club at Crowell Elementary School's pumpkin patch. The event provided students with an opportunity to celebrate the fall season and select a pumpkin.
Carter Nelson Memorial Golf Tournament
The Warriors joined fellow student-athletes from Stan State women's basketball, golf, baseball and softball in volunteering at the annual Carter Nelson Memorial Golf Tournament at the Turlock Golf and Country Club. The event honors Carter Nelson's memory while raising funds and community support for Jessica's House, which provides free grief support for children, teens, young adults and their families.
"I was able to help out at both the Crowell Elementary School pumpkin patch and the Jessica's House Golf Tournament. At the school, it was great to see all the kids smile when they picked out their pumpkins. I thought it was really cool that Kiwanis provided an opportunity like that for the youth," said redshirt freshman
Ross Widemon. "At Jessica's House, seeing the community come together for a great cause was amazing. I was also able to meet so many people who were interested in our basketball program this coming year."
KUAS Hosted Dinner
On Saturday, the Warriors attended a dinner hosted by Kyoto University of Advanced Science (KUAS). The event brought together instructors and members of the community involved with KUAS, which offers English-taught undergraduate programs in engineering, bioenvironmental sciences and business administration.
"This was my first time attending these events as a newcomer to the team. I really enjoyed meeting new people in the community, as well as the teachers from Kyoto, Japan. Meeting people from different backgrounds and different parts of the world was a great experience," said junior transfer
Diego Martinez.
The dinner provided the Warriors an opportunity to connect with members of the KUAS community and learn more about the university's academic programs and international educational mission.
