POMONA -- A frustrated head coach was nearly lost for words to describe the bad luck his team's having as the Cal State Stanislaus men's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker to Cal Poly Pomona, 3-2, in double overtime on Friday.
After
Artemio Arteaga scored the go-ahead score with two minutes remaining, the Broncos sent the match into overtime with a goal just 27 seconds left. Cal Poly Pomona then ended the match with 28 ticks remaining in the second overtime on a Tyler Reinhart score.
With the setback, the Warriors dipped to 2-5-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association heading into Sunday's match at Cal State San Bernardino. Cal Poly Pomona picked up its second win of the year to go to 2-4-1, 2-2-1 in league play.
"I just don't know what else to say. We worked hard and did what we needed to do and scored two goals, but we gave up goals in the final seconds," Warriors head coach Eric Mild said. "It was frustrating, a tough loss."
After the teams battled to a 0-0 tie at the break, Arteaga gave Stanislaus a 1-0 lead on a feed from
Alfredo Renteria at 52:05. CPP tied the score with a Hector Quevedo scored 16 minutes later.
CSUS goalkeeper
Mando Herrera picked up seven saves.
