ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Nicci Miller scored a game-high 19 points and 3rd-ranked Alaska Anchorage used a 15-0 run midway through the game to earn a 72-45 women's basketball victory over Cal State Stanislaus at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex on Saturday night.
The Warriors (6-3) got an impressive 11 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks from center
Katie Busi, but the Seawolves held the Warriors to just 28.3 percent shooting (15 of 53) and forced 24 turnovers.
UAA (11-1) also got 10 points and five rebounds from senior forward Dasha Basova as it stretched its winning streak to nine games and earned an important victory in the NCAA Division II West Region playoff race.
Meanwhile, the Seawolves committed a season-low 10 turnovers and cashed in from the free-throw line where they made 24 of 33.
Lysandra Williams had eight points and the usually sharp-shooting
Gwen Page was just 1 for 11 from the field for six points.
The Warriors hang in with the nationally ranked team early in the game and trailed just 27-21 with three minutes left to play in the first half. The Warriors ran off to a 5-0 lead to start the game.
UAA's Nikki Aden would nail a three-pointer, however, and Elisha Harris grabbed a steal and drove in for a layup to help UAA take a 34-21 lead at the break. The Seawolves then opened with the first eight points of the second half and the game stayed near a 20-point margin from there.
The Seawolves got excellent backcourt play from the trio of Jackie Thiel, Kiki Taylor and Elisha Harris, who combined for 10 assists, six steals and just three turnovers.
Rebecca Kielpinski, two-time GNAC player of the year, was held to just seven points (5-6 FT), five rebounds and three blocks.
The Warriors return home for the Holiday week and will play next at Seattle Pacific on Monday, Dec. 29.
