SAN FRANCISCO – For most of the new Warriors they are learning that it's tough to play in other people's house in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. They saw that first hand in the loud, hostile environment of The Swamp Friday night.

In a closely contested game, the host San Francisco State Gators eventually hit their free throws late in the game and held on to beat Cal State Stanislaus, 70-67, in both team's conference opener.

Benny Koochoie hit two late three-pointers and gave the Warriors some light by pulling the team within four, 68-64, with 4.9 ticks left. San Francisco State, however, managed to hold on to win with free throws.

The Warriors were led by Matt Ibewiro who turned in his third double-double of the year with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Koochoie finished with a career-high 19 points and Chris Hayes added eight points to pace Stanislaus, now 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the CCAA.

San Francisco State's early-season perfect run continues as the Gators improved to 6-0 on the year, the best start in program history. SFSU was led by Robert Hayes who finished with 22 points. Alex Thomas had 21 points and six boards and Brad Visman pulled down 10 rebounds.

After trailing for most of the game, the Warriors got ahead halfway through the second half and a Ibewiro slam dunk with 12:01 to play gave CSUS a four-point, 47-43, lead. Some see-saw battled ensued but the Gators go up by two on a Hayes layup with seven minutes to play. Ibewiro would tie it at 51-51 before the Gators go on a 9-2 run to take control.

In the final moments, the Gators would finally convert on their free throw attempts. SF State struggled on the free throw line for most of the night, and at one point was just 3-for-11. The Gators finished with 11 of 24 from the line.

Cal State Stanislaus continues the conference-opening road trip to yet another difficult – and small – gymnasium to play in at Cal State Monterey Bay's Kelp Bed. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday night.
