SEASIDE -- Cal State Monterey Bay used a 15-4 run to start the second half to take control and then pulled away late as the Otters defeated Cal State Stanislaus, 80-68, Saturday night.

With the win, the Otters won their sixth straight to open the season and are 2-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association for the first time.

Cal State Stanislaus goes 0-2 in CCAA play for the third time in the last five year and even its overall record to 3-3.

Benny Koochoie led the Warriors with 20 points, Casey Cutts had 12 points and Rod Stephens pulled eight rebounds to lead the team. Koochoie had 19 points Friday night at San Francisco State with five three-pointers. He had four treys Saturday.

Matt Ibewiro, Stanislaus' leading scorer averaging 19.8 points per game entering the weekend, was held to just six points on 3 of 10 shooting. Ibewiro was in foul trouble in the first half and Warriors never really got the inside game going. Michael Dyson was 1-for-6 with four points.

Cal State Monterey Bay was led by Steve Monreal with 15, Joe Mitchell had 14 and Dante Green scored 13 points with 10 rebounds.

With the score at 38-35 in favor of CSUMB coming out of intermission, the Otters used a 15-4 run to take a 53-39 lead in the first four minutes. CSUS guards Cutts and Koochoie hit back-to-back baskets and Ibewiro followed with a jumper to pull the team within 53-44 at 14:54.

The Warriors would get as close as five points, at 60-55 with 7:16 left, on a Chris Hayes jumper. However, Monterey Bay would maintain its lead and pulled away in the final minutes while Stanislaus went cold from the field.

Stanislaus finished 24-for-60 from the field with six three-pointers on 21 attempts (29 percent). The Warriors were once again out-rebounded 43-29.
