SEASIDE — The Warriors volleyball team played well enough to win but came up on the losing end twice at the Otter Invitational as they drop matches to No. 9 Western Washington and Eastern New Mexico.

With the setbacks, Cal State Stanislaus dropped to 2-4 on the season and will play William Jessup to conclude its drop to Cal State Monterey Bay's Kelp Bed on Saturday. The match is slated for a 12:30 p.m. start.

In Friday's action, the Warriors looked strong in the opening set against Western Washington, winning 25-22. After tailing 11-5 early, the Warriors rallied back and eventually tied it at 14-14. Some solid attacks by Jen Gee and freshman Lianne Vicchio put the Vikings away for a Warrior win. The Vikings, ranked No. 9  in the latest AVCA Top 25, finished second nationally a season ago.

The Vikings, however, rolled to quick wins in the next three sets for the four-set win, 22-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-12.

Gee and Vicchio each finished with 11 kills with Vicchio also picking up 10 digs to help libero Megan Britton, who had 19. Angela Ohland chipped in a career-best seven kills and setter Colleen Sullivan had 20 assists. Karly Penton, coming off a weekend off due to a back injury, led the way with four total blocks.

In the afternoon affair against ENMU, Gee had a new career-high with 17 kills to lead Stanislaus, but the Warriors felt in four, 25-21, 14-25, 25-20, 27-25. Vicchio had a career-high 17 digs to go with 13 kills for her third double-double of her young career.

After losing set one, 25-21, the Warriors rallied back with a 25-14 set two win in runaway fashion. CSUS started with a 6-0 run, then led at 13-5 and then with five straight points for 24-12 before Vicchio ended it with a kill.

Nicki Brown dished off 33 assists, Amanda Pielstick had 18 digs and Penton added 10 kills to pace the Warriors.

CSU Stanislaus actually out-hit ENMU, .181 to .148, with 62 kills to 37, however the Zias were strong at the net, putting up nine team blocks with 16 assisted-blocks. Service errors (11) and hitting errors (35) also hurt the Warriors.
