UC San Diego defeats Warriors, 67-58

LA JOLLA -- Benny Koochoie and Michael Dyson each had 17 points but the Warriors suffered another defeat as host UC San Diego defeated Cal State Stanislaus, 67-58, Friday night in RIMAC Arena.

Chris Hayes pulled 10 rebounds to lead the Warriors but Stanislaus dropped to 5-10 overall and 1-9 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

Jordan Lawley had 19 points and Alan Husted scored 15 to lead the Tritons. UC San Diego improved to 9-6 overall and 6-3 in the CCAA.

Cal State Stanislaus out-played UCSD in the second half and limited its turnovers to a season-low seven. The Warriors outscored the Tritons 36-35 in the second half but could not rebound from a 32-22 halftime deficit. UCSD built the first half lead by shooting 52 percent from the field with four three-pointers.

Matt Ibewiro's layup at 14:48 in the second half pulled Stanislaus within four at 38-34, but that's the closest the Warriors would get. Ibewiro also had six rebounds and two blocked shots to go with eight points.

UC San Diego led by as many as 15 points when Kirby Ruiz nailed a jumper with about four minutes left to play.

Turlock's Koochoie, who took 21 shots, was 3-for-9 from beyond the three-point arch.

The Warriors will next play on Friday, Jan. 30 when they host Cal State Monterey Bay in Warrior Arena.
