TURLOCK — The Cal State Stanislaus women's basketball team pull away late to take control of a close game as the Warriors remain undefeated at home this season with a 65-57 win over Sonoma State Friday night.
Gwendolyn Page scored a game-high 22 points and pulled seven rebounds to lead the way for the Warriors, which improved to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The win snapped a four-game skid for Stanislaus. Cal State Stanislaus also improved to 6-0 in Warrior Arena.
Sonoma State, led by Lauren Redfield with 15 points and five rebounds, dropped to 5-7 overall and 1-5 in conference play. Michelle Gardner added 10 poionts for the Seawolves.
Warrior sophomore center
Katie Busi continues to her strong season with her fourth consecutive double-double game -- and sixth of the season. Busi tallied 15 points with 12 rebounds and three steals. The conference's leading shot-blocker also had four blocks to bring her season total to 35. Busi is now just 12 blocks away from tying the Warriors career record in blocked-shots.
Despite shooting just 29.6 percent in the first half, the Warriors managed to stay in the game and trailed 31-27 at the break. CSUS managed to stay in the game going 9 of 12 from the foul line and limited its turnovers to just seven in the first 20 minutes.
Lysandra Williams kept pace for the Warriors in the opening half as well netting 9 of her 12 points in the first half.
Stanislaus shot 47.4 percent in the second half and nailed four three-pointers to turn a 6-point Sonoma State at 39-33 into a tie game at 44-44 with 11 minutes left.
Samantha Bertomen would give Stanislaus its lead for good with a three-pointer at 4:15 left for a 57-55 advantage.
