TURLOCK -- The Warriors kept it close on senior night Friday at Warrior Arena but the UC San Diego Tritons pulled away in the second half to win 98-68 in both teams' regular season finale.

The game was the Warriors' last of the 2008-09 season. With the loss they finish at 7-18 overall and 3-17 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The Tritons improve to 16-10 overall and 13-7 in the CCAA. They will play in the first round of the CCAA Championship Tournament on Tuesday.

As it should be, two seniors led the Warriors Friday night. Senior Chris Hayes led the way in his final game wearing a Cal State Stanislaus uniform with 16 points and nine rebounds. Michael Dyson also scored in double digits with 13. The Warriors struggled shooting Friday, going 19-for-52 from the field, including 6-for-18 from the 3-point line.

UC San Diego had four players score in double digits, led by Tyler Acevedo, who had 23 off the bench. Acevedo went 7-for-10 from beyond the arc in an 8-for-11 overall shooting night. Shane Poppen had 17 points, Alan Husted had 12 and Kelvin Kim had 11.

The second half was huge for the Tritons. They were holding onto a slim, 30-28, lead coming out of halftime in light of a 36.4 percent shooting performance in the first half that included a 1-for-8 mark from downtown. The Tritons went on a 14-4 run to open the second half, expanding their lead to 12. The Warriors played hard and cut that lead back down to nine at 60-51 with 10 minutes, 8 seconds on the clock, but UC San Diego would go on another run, this time putting the Warriors away with a 28-6 stretch that expanded the lead to 31 points in eight minutes of game time.

The Tritons shot 78.1 percent from the field in the second half to finish with a 55.9 percent field goal percentage for the game. They went 7-for-10 from beyond the arc in continuing to extend their lead in the second half. The Tritons also shot lights-out from the free-throw line, going 21-for-25 for the game.

Seniors Dyson, Hayes and Terry Johnson were all honored before the game in a pregame ceremony, recognizing them for their time spent as a member of the Cal State Stanislaus men's basketball program.
