TURLOCK — In an important non-conference regional match, head coach Verek Visaraga wanted the Warriors to go out early and take care of the doubles matches.

The young Cal State Stanislaus women's tennis team did just that, sweeping the doubles matches — then took four of six in the singles — to beat Hawaii Hilo, 7-2, Tuesday afternoon at CSUS Tennis Courts.

With the win, the Warriors improved to 2-1 heading into Saturday's rematch against conference foe UC San Diego in La Jolla. UHH, which entered the week ranked No. 4 in the West Region, evened its record to 6-6. Cal State Stanislaus is currently No. 5 in the West.

Verena Preikschas and Katie Eng won the No. 1 doubles match in a well-played contest by both teams as the duo beat UHH's Eve Castaing and Christie Pagatpatan. Preikschas and Eng improved their record to 3-0 as the No. 1 singles team.

Preikschas then won a hard-fought battle against Castaing in the No. 1 singles match, 6-3, 7-6 (6-4). After winning the first set 6-3, Preikschas found herself trailing before rallying to tie it at 5-5. A see-saw, intense battle ensued with Preikschas finally winning the tiebreaker and match-point by charging the net and tabbed a shot over for the winner. Preikschas is now 7-1 this season at No. 1 singles.

Eng also won her singles match at No. 3 after dropping the first set. She rallied for a 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 win. Brianna McClintock put-away Akimi Kifune at No. 5, 6-1, 7-5 and Heather Cotter beat Jenna DeCleene at No. 6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

Earlier in the afternoon, Vanesa Reibstein and McClintock won their No. 2 doubles match, 8-6 and Lexy Harrington and Cotter out-lasted Kifune and DeCleene at No. 3 doubles.
